Check the fuses and get back to us. There is nothing else to suggest until we know what it isn't.

If it cut in and out, then the fuse is 90% not the problem, but still the first thing you should check...If the wires are good, Im guessing your HU has an internal short. Got your old HU or a friend's old HU you can borrow for a bit? Or another car you can hook the suspect HU to?

Ok here's what I got:

Checked all the fuses. They are OK.

Something I noticed yesterday when we reconnected the power, my amps "Protect" light turned on. This really confused me, and seeing that I couldnt turn it off from my deck, i had to disconnect the wire to it to turn it off.

What seemed to be one problem appears to be two.
1) The Power got disconnected.[FIXED]
===> but now it doesn't turn on, and the amp is on protect. (2)

Could the rapid turning off and on do something?

My conclusion:

As I went over the bump, my power was barley connected and kept touching, therefore turning my HU on and off. Because of the constant-quick on and off, it fried something inside, leaving us with a head unit with everything wired correctly but doesn't turn on.

Time to look for a new alpine...

Unfortunately you're probably right about it being toast.

Installed a new unit. Everything works great so it was the headunit's problem.

ok i have a slighty similar slightly different problem. i have a 2003 ford ranger Sport 4.0l with 4x4 and i just installed a clarion deck. (had it in my old truck and it worked perfect) and i have 2 10"xenon subs hooked up to the truck with a 4g wiring kit with 2000w amp. i was driving down the road and all of a sudden the head unit turned off. i tried restarting the truck but it did nothing it still will not turn on. ive checked the fuses both in dash and under hood. they are perfectly fine i checked my wiring and its all good no shorts (that i could see) any suggestions? could it be the deck internals? tommorow i think i will put in a different deck to see if it works. please let me know on any ideas you have. i hope its not anything to do with the wiring harness. thanks

Pull the deck out and smell it. If it smells burnt. something fried. Also, some decks have a fuse in the back.
