I don't have to look it up, I know all about it. Why I originally posted this - You are saying you blew the Polk 6x8's with that head ? Maybe from sending it a overdriven distorted signal, but not from overpowering. Polk's need alot more power than that head can do
Same as clipping. Next time get the appropriate speakers for the application.

Re: Show Your System
Never said you are a car audio noob. If you got Polk speakers to be powered with the low power from only the head, you made a bad choice. You sent them a distorted, overdriven signal and burned out the voice coils, in at least one of them.

Re: Show Your System
Cheap Dual 300 watt amp from wal mart.
Used Infinity Sub from a buddy. 12"
Here is the head. Sony Xplod. Powers two JVC 6x9's in boxes. will be putting 6's in the doors soon.
May not look like much. but it sounds good.

I didn't buy the db's to be used without an amp.I just don't have the amp yet.Within the next couple weeks I'm getting a 3 channel amp, box and sub(s).The only thing stopping me is choosing which ones to go with. The box is the toughest choice.I had planned on one 10" but I couldn't find a box that fits good in a regular cab(besides an MTX Thunderform).I also have to buy a toolbox to store my jack and lugwrench.I finally found a box but built specifically for regular cab Rangers, it houses two subs from Supercrew Sound.com.
I don't doubt that you're right about how I blew the speaker but I swear I didn't turn the volume up to the point of distortion and I had the bass turned all the way down on the 7-band EQ.The second set of db's is doing fine so far.

Good. My aim was not to offend or insult anyone, but to help or teach.

Hopefully, these are the Polk's you have -
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107DB57...d%7cPolk+Audio
They should handle 100 watts RMS each, properly highpassed around 125 hz with the sub lowpassed around 100 hz. 50 watts RMS would be OK too.
I highly recommend you use a nice 4 channel amp with the front channels powering the Polk's and the rear channels bridged to a nice sealed 10" enclosure.

Re: Show Your System
No offense taken.I'll take all the free advice I can get from someone who isn't trying to get my money. Should I go with a 2 ohm or 4 ohm sub for my application?Dual Voice coil or single?Class AB or Class D amp?
I was entertaining the thought of going with the dual sub box but I'm gonna stick with the single. So I'm now looking for a 4 channel amp.
Any advice(especially suggestions, keeping in mind I'm on somewhat of a budget) will be really appreciated.
P.S. those are the 5x7 db's I have.They are rated at 60 watts RMS.

should get a dual voice coil you can wire them for 4 or 2 ohms. i have tried class ab amps for years they worked but they got really hot and didnt last a long time. partly my fault but. i went with a class d amp on my last setup and its been pounding for 8 years now with no issues and doesnt even get warm to touch
