Re: Show Your System
Volume is measured in decibels , it doesnt matter what frequency it is , 20 hz at 150 db is the same as 2000hz at 150 db as far as sound pressure is concerned . you hear them the same but 150 will do damage in a short time , same as being exposed to 85 db over a longer period . yes higher frequencys do more damage only because they vibrate the hairs in the ear canal faster as well as the ear drum components .
When I was completing in car audio competitions , most people myself included would wear hearing protection to feel the bass over 100 db . just remember SPL is a level indication not what you hear , it is the SPL that does the damage.

Re: Show Your System
If you really think a 150at 20hz is the same as 2000hz your a moron lol come sit in my truck 150s in 30s for frequency then ill shut my subs off and play 2000hz through a tweeter and put your head by that amd tell me its the same you'd be crying from 2000hz even in the 100db range

First , I am not a moron , second , Spl is only how loud something is , and yes there is a big difference listening to 20 and 2000hz , 2000hz at 150db would probably cause your ears to bleed . I was only saying that on a spl meter 150 db is the same volume no matter what the frequency is . If you look at a frequency sine wave the higher the frequency the closer the wave form is, but the amplitude is still the same at a specific volume .Take pink noise used to set up systems , it is random frequencies all at the same volume or amplitude across the spectrum .

well, yes, they ARE the same. They just aren't perceived by your ears the same. mazdaman is correct if you read what he said, SPL is the same at all frequencies as far as pressure is concerned
All sound in the perceptible range can damage your hearing to a degree. Even some infrasound that we cannot perceive. All frequencies at the same SPL produce the same pressures
I don't think anyone is "bashing" your hobby, you're the one calling people morons. Don't take it so personally.
Here's some interesting reading for anyone interested in understanding more about SPL as well as a bit on infrasound.

punk/rock sounds best with a sealed box and rap/hiphop sounds best with a ported box, sooo...
Best sound quality is usually obtained with a sealed box that is the correct size for the subwoofer, and in a Ranger, downfired.

^What he said^
The rap will sound better with a sealed than the rock does with a ported if that makes any sense. A sealed box will give you a tighter, punchier bass and a ported box is more boomy. The double bass in rock music will sound alot better in a sealed box. I'd also get a 10" over a 12" for rock music, just my opinion though.
