Re: Show Your System
WHAT IN THE WORLD are you guys DOING with all this power in your audio?!?!?!?!? Apart from destroying your hearing, of course. I run one 10" Polk DXI with a Kicker CX 300w RMS amp and it sounds amazing and can get way louder (and stay clean) than I would ever want it to be. I just don't get what the appeal is of multiple 12" or larger subs being run by 10 BILLION watt amps and having to run extra batteries INSIDE a little pickup truck!!!
Can someone explain this to me?

It doesn't sound like farting in person. The camera does that.
It's a hobby for some and a personal preference for others. I personally like large amounts of clean bass sometimes. It also has to do with the music listened to. Obviously huge subs on nasty kuntreh music isn't going to sound good. However, rap and dubstep is enhanced infinitely by big bass.

Re: Show Your System
I like your honesty, that you like the reaction you get from others when they sit inside your vehicle or are hanging out near where you're parked. Man oh man, how do you handle the volume and low end? My eardrums rattle in my head thinking about it.

Yeah reactions are fun. I love giving demos personally, though my current sub isn't the best to show off lol. I always try to make it do too much when I'm giving a demo and it distorts.

just keeping it real...its wat I do. and honestly its not that bad...I could argue for days on how ppl think this is HARD on your hearing. iv been doing this for 9years now and my hearing is still as good as it was when I started. still checks out better then my younger sisters also

I love giving demos like this, its what makes it all worth it, it don't matter how many thousands I spend on this truck, when I get reactions like that it makes everything all worth it, the money, the work I have into, none of that matters when I see the reactions...

You can't just argue that continuous loud noises don't damage your hearing. You can say whatever you want, but it does damage your hearing, that's a fact. If you want to argue, go ahead.

Any loud noises heard for an extended amount of time or over a long period of time won't be good. However, it's my understanding that higher frequencies are more dangerous to hearing than low frequencies. Obviously when heard at high volume, mids and highs (at least for me) are more painful than lows. This pain might in turn warn the body that higher frequencies are more damaging than lows.

Re: Show Your System
It's progressive. Loud noises damage the tiny hairs in your ear canal. Over time, the hairs die. You might not be realizing hearing loss now, but keep it up and you will.

Re: Show Your System
Thsts exactly my point its not noise...speakers produce noise (high frequencys) door speakers will do the damage to hearing not the woofers. Woofers produce a pressure not a noise which is wat we measure (SPL) sound pressure level. There's been a whole debate about this and doctors were brought in if I find the link on smd ill post but even the doc stated the woofers (low frequency s) are not damaging hearing like ppl think...the pressure does not start to damage hearing untill the 165db range which is getting close to bombs sound which them are much higher frequency also but still when you get to that point yes your gona statt damaging hearing. But you'll do more damage puting your hears next to stock speakers or goin to a rock concert. Like I said I could argue for days but I'm not goin to over the internet

This^^ the low frequency sounds aren't near as damaging as the high frequencies that mids and highs put out.
1loudrnger, some people will just never understand why we do what we do and people are always afraid of what they dont understand.
Most people dont see the behind the scenes of car audio. I have a big group of friends here locally who are like my family. They are what helps drive me to continue to compete and do better. The look I get when someone hears just "2 little 12s" gettin up in the upper 140dbs is priceless. That makes all the hard hours and long nights worth it.
