Now cover it in good automotive carpeting.

The right (wrong) sub and enough power, splinters.

Subwoofer enclosure are typically built with 5/8" MDF (google it) and the best ones are built with 3/4" MDF, joined and braced very well.

That's a single 4ohm 120w rms(from what I can see on the motor) Pioneer. With that in mind, a decently clean 150w rms amplifier should be sufficient for it.

Also, underpowering a sub or any other speaker will NOT damage it.

What WILL damage it - is the fact that people who ARE underpowering it tend to turn the head unit and/or amplifier(s) up too loud, causing distortion/clipped signal - which WILL kill a speaker, virtually no matter the power.

Great thanks, any brands you would recommend? Good quality but not too expensive?

any regular mainstream brand will be fine and can be had for good prices online.

kicker, alpine, pioneer, kenwood, mtx for example would all be pretty sufficient.
