that wiring is scary.

Sorry haha I'm 16 and did all the wiring without help. I promise that I got a good solder on every other connection. I will put the fuse next to the battery. I didn't really think it mattered where I put the fuse as long as it was on the same wire.

When I was an installer back in the day, the rule for MECP techs was the fuse had to be no further than 18 inches from the battery. (Pretty sure it was 18inches). Reason being is the fuse is protecting the wiring. If you put the fuse at the end, the wire could burn all the way to the fuse instead of stopping right near the battery.

Wire nuts are for home installations. They can wiggle loose with bass. Then you'll have a fire

DD recommends the use of wire nuts though and they are a top brand. (I do not run DD or particularly like them).

I moved the fuse and soldered everything today in 12 degree weather lol. I also found that plastic wrap stuff (not shrink tube) that they use for speaker wires so that should make everything look neater instead of a big ball of electrical tape.

What did you solder? There shouldn't be anything to solder in amp wiring.. Besides connections at head unit for the amp turn on wire. You can solder but I've always used butt connectors. Wire nuts are a definite no. As well as fuse. Closer to the battery the better. Fuse kills power to the wire. So if the fuse is at the amp and blows that 10ft of wire is still live. So if it's 12 inches from the battery only that little 12 inches is live and the rest is dead when the fuse is blown. Ground wire also short as possible and same size as your power wire. Amps are incredibly simple to install. Tuning on the other hand is rather difficult at times. I tune them all now with a multi meter. I started on my audio in my truck probably when I was 17. 21 now and I just finished it and have it set up. Although I would like to swap my mids and highs amp as well as speakers to have all matching alpine. But I'm not messing with it anymore. Sounds cleaner and louder than a lot of the junk the local audio places put out. It's loud and clean I can crank my head unit up all the way and I get no distortion, it screams. Not saying I have the best setup in the world because I don't. But I'm happy with it.

What is the remote wire for the amp hooked up to? do you have it hooked up to the power antenna wire on the back of the radio? Or to the constant 12v power of the amp?
