These are high sensitivity drivers at 92.5db & 94db. A lot of power isn't needed. I'm fine with underpowering them. I don't listen to my stereo that loud. Could they take more? Sure they could, but at the volume I listen at they wouldn't use any more power. My eq is flat, no loudness, no boosts or eq all the time. And the hpf is set at 80.

Eventually I'll pull it out and see if gets any better with the stereo turned up a bit more and the gains turned down.

I understand they are loud enough for you. Again, gain knob isn't volume knob. When you don't have enough amp for the drivers, it is especially important to have the gain set correctly so there is no clipping.

My source volume is at 60% of max, the gains on my amp are set at 15% of max. What are the odds that I have clipping? I'm going to guess very low.

I also know that my install is not optimal. But it sounds really good for the small cost. All of my equipment was bought because it was a good deal. I'm not telling anyone else to follow in my exact path. But for me it's great. In 19 years of installing and tuning my own systems (most of which were far more complex than this), I haven't blown an amp, speaker, or sub. So I'm going to keep setting my gains by ear, one speaker at a time. Because it hasn't failed me yet.

OK, sure, but your source volume should always be at least 70% and with some Pioneer heads, can even go to 95-100 % using the RCA preouts without clipping or distortion.

I'm not using RCA's. I was feeling cheap, so I used high level inputs instead(they cost $0). Source volume "should be" over 70%? How about "can be" over 70%. Now if the gains weren't set so low on the amp, I might turn the deck up to 80%.

OK. Most any pro would recommend the source volume set at 75% when setting gains.

Just gonna say, you can't be more wrong but I don't feel like arguing. You are purely guessing using your methods so you should quit pushing it onto people.

When using rca outs, you will probably get away with 70% on a quality HU. But since he's using a high level converter, the speaker outputs tend to distort much earlier than the rca's and there is no predicting that, so if what he has is working and not getting smelly you're best off just leaving it unless you have access to an o-scope

I'm not using a line converter. I cut the rca ends off the power pack and wired the output wires from the deck directly into it. Which is what the directions said to do.

It sounds great, now I need to decide where I'm mounting the sub.

Maybe you should read the instructions from alpine before you start running your mouths about my install.

Taken directly from the power pack owners manual.

And I agree Jesus has nothing to do with your ignorance.

Well...now that the Pillow fight is over. I'm sure everybody else knows this. But with the windows down the subs hit harder. Is that because there is an exit for the existing sound waves and more room for the new sound waves to move?

Competition vehicles are sealed and don't have glass for a reason
