It's been shown that using the body/frame is roughly equivalent to 2/0 awg and can handle around 3k watt rms when the big three is performed. That said, as long as the wire is the appropriate size there Is no reason the ground can't be longer than 18". Because if that were true then why do vehicles running high power Amps and/or competition vehicles have up to like 10 1/0 power and ground from front to rear on top of body ground.
Oh and Trevor if you ground the amp to the frame in the back, you need to run grounds from the battery and alt to the frame also (didn't read if you already did that or not)

He may be talking of a larger ground, and I have not done the big 3 upgrade yet unfortunately. This system doesn't really drain my battery so I may be safe at this point. If I upgrade in the future I'll really need to do the Big 3 though. Hey and thanks everyone for the assistance. I really appreciate it!

The seat bolts right to the frame. Sand it, mount the ground

And actually if you have the rear seats on the sides of the truck . There are even more bolts that go straight to the frame

Really? You don't say? I thought these electrical systems ran on magical bunnies and the hopes of little children.
the factory grounds are tiny. And there isn't any worth while grounds that run to the frame (not the body). If you are grounding to the seat bolt, which is fine if it's clean. you need to at least upgrade the battery-body ground. Go look at it, it's about a 8-10 awg wire from the core support to the negative terminal. That's pretty much what is supporting not only your system but the rest of the electrical in the cab and you need maybe 6-8 in of wire and a couple ring terminals to upgrade.

👍👍👍 I did the big 3 before I did anything lmao. Kept all original grounds just incase I sell the truck. Shits 4$ a foot

Re: Show Your System
It's hard to belive this X10 is actually a 10" subwoofer especially put beside the SA-8 v2.
Double the cone area, 250% more rms power and nearly double the x-max should be a good upgrade, for now . . . .

Bought both off of e-bay through woofersetc. There is a rep in my city according to Sundowns website but i've never spoken with him, no dealers though AFAIK.
Had the SA-8 since April and i bought the X10 in October.

Believe me i've been itching to get it installed! but i want to do it properly (not that has much to do with the time i've waited) designing the right enclosure to fit properly has taken some time as i come up with different ideas. Torres (simple box planner) has worked, but i am going to try and learn to use google sketchup so i can get a look of what i want to build in 3D.
I don't have readily available access to facilities to fabricate an enclosure, that has been the biggest cause of the delay for me. I might end up just taking my plans to a local shop and see if they can build it for me.
I took the SA-8 out of my truck about a month ago and my ears are enjoying the small reprive from the ooonce and wubbb.

You silly boys and your small subwoofers.
On a side note, feel free to take a short drive south and build your box in my garage if you want a hand with it. You might have to bring a couple beers though.

So, you're saying you've got 15'' + Subs?

For me it's all about maximizing output from something that makes people do a double take when they see it.
I might have lined up the use a friends garage in town here but that offer is much appreciated and might be taken up on if things don't pan out here, but building a box might take more than a couple of beers. Where are you located?
