The best thing to do is go down to a local audio shop and listen to options. Some guys call a loud sub good because of output over sound quality. Some people just can't hear the difference in quality

And for the record...I have NOTHING against Sundown. I just don't have personal experience with them, but from what I hear they are badass

This.

Get a budget and hit up local shops.

Yeah the satellite receiver. And this is going in my Explorer, not the Ranger.

Put it on the dash. Looks better and no holes to worry about finding or drilling.

Hey guys. Installed new amps over the weekend.

Massive Audio N3 and NX2.

I planned on installing them behind the seats.

Ended up finding better locations.

I have to have the wires tucked away. I'll see what I can do though when I get it in the mail.

I mean tuck the antenna all the way up right where the windshield meets the dash. You won't see any wires. Trust me for once in your life damnit! Lol

Looks like someone did some clamping, but without calculating what the phase angle and all that jazz is those results are not accurate

Looks like someone watched videos on another method that is no more accurate in a real world application than clamping

The amp dyno is a wonderful idea, but in an SPL setup like mine it's useless. I need to know my reactive load in relation to nominal, and to see if I'm gaining/losing output by the changes I'm making to my enclosure/vehicle/charging system. It's wonderful to see what an amp will do on a constant 1 ohm load hooked you a charger, but that does me no good in chasing tenths.

Phase angle, efficiency in the way Tony referred to it, etc have never been a concern, and will not be a concern to those using these for the type of application I'm using as knowing what my amp will do on a constant load limited by the battery bank backing it doesn't tell me the information I need thus is no more accurate in my application than clamping. What I did this for was to see the extra 10 vac I gained for the last change made, thus resulting in a pretty substantial gain. Not to mention it's not capable of monitoring two or more at one time like I need.

----------

I'm a huge fan of Tony and his work, have been since his days at RF, but IMO the amp dyno will never take the place of the traditional clamping method with good true rms meters in the SPL world. It's an excellent tool for shops/manufacturers that want to show the customer exactly what they are getting but until it can start with a nominal load and show real time rise as in the application and function off the vehicles actual charging system and be easy enough to be used to check in all different temperatures, humidities, conditions then it will not work in my particular application.

Lol you got me, ima sucker for some math lol and I agree with you in the ad-1, all loads are reactive in audio not resistive which is why I think his new meter is nice because its like a dyno but it uses the subs as the load and imo is a much more realistic test.

But the issue with clamping is that the meters (voltage, ammeter) record the max value but they don't necessarily occur at the same time so you can't just do (volts x amps = watts) there is a power factor you have to find and add in to the equation to get watts. With Ac power if you just multiply volts and amps you end up with Va not watts (I think, don't quote me I've been drinking atm lol)

I'm not trying to belittle you or anything just wanna make sure the proper equations are used to get an accurate measurement. While I'm not at the same level as you, I'm a fellow basshead in for the fun of the addiction lol
I'll prolly see this in the morning and think wtf was I thinking lol thank god for auto correct
