I really.... really need to hear one in person. Of course the shop I went to wouldn't hook one up for me so that kinda sucked. I don't want to buy one before I know for a fact I'll like it better than my P2 12"

I had a 12" Alpine Type S sealed in my truck before.

I would say this SA-8 i have now in a ported enclosure is pretty much as loud and hits much deeper.

I do agree though, it should be heard in person to appreciate it fully.

But how should I go about door lock actuators since kits don't come with them? I figure this may be a decent place to ask since its about keeping my stuff safe! Haha also, just got this:

I'm getting more and more excited haha
Good speakers if highpassed. I have the Kappas in 1 truck.

Why I quit building boxes., angled boxes are especially rough for trucks, and no one wants to pay for the time of day or materials/tools..

I'm lazy so you get a screen shot. Theres a single top ported 18, sealed w3 12 in a truck box, 2-10 &1-12 in a single box. Fiberglass doors blah blah blah. And he's in Sonoma not Napa

I used to have this problem but I've discovered that people don't really think or understand what really goes into building a custom enclosure correctly. I have several pictures of the actual build process of a custom enclosure for people to see and then have examples of some that we have built along with pre-fab boxes on display. A good demo of a correctly built enclosure vs. a pre-fab goes a long way. Also, discussing everything that goes into a custom enclosure is important. Often, people don't think about the time it takes just to get the design figured out especially with ported enclosures. Then, there is the cost of materials. Wood, glue, screws, nails, carpet, etc., etc. We have the largest, most extensive fab shop in our city and I don't mind showing it to people. Once they see/hear the benefits of having a custom enclosure built correctly by us, they quickly understand why a custom enclosure usually starts about $125-150.

Notice I keep saying "correctly." There are lots of people that can build a box, but a correctly built enclosure takes skill, experience and the proper tools. The other reality of it is that lots of people will never even know the difference between a pre-fab box and a custom enclosure so they don't see the value in the extra cost of the custom option. "It's just a box" is something I hear a lot and it used to bother me. This is why I went through the effort to have examples available for people to see first hand and to have working demos for people to hear. One of my favorite things to do is to take a clients sub out of their pre-fab box and build a custom enclosure for it. Once they hear the difference they almost always go custom after that.

I'm glad you agree, all I do is build for myself and friends now, If someone wants one bad enough they will pay the cost. Shops buy the pre fab boxes from $20-30, I dont see how the builders make a profit.

Another thing to look at is the design in the box also.

See and I would buy a custom box from you. Seems like all the shops I go to around here (northern California) none of them care enough. Hell one guy couldn't even take his head out of his laptop long enough to hold a simple conversation with me. And at another shop, a different customer was telling me more about the different subs and amps that shop carried. So when they said $125 for a custom box and I said why all they had to say for that was because we don't have one in stock.

I can see what you mean, some shops are absolute asshats, most at home builders do it because they love to see a new setup come together, but at the same time noone loves to work for free. We have around 2-3 GOOD shops in the North GA area, but they dont shortcut so its not very cheap to get work from them.

Would you guys recommend that I buy a separate amp to power my speakers rather than running them off the headunit? And if so what's an inexpensive amp? I don't think I would need many watts, correct? Just more than the 15 from my headunit. Haha. My system isn't crazy powered, so idk if amping my speakers would be necessary since its not like I'm running a 1k rms amp/sub. Thanks
