You would be matching that sub perfectly if you used an Alpine MRV-M250 amp for it, they have the same rms rating.
Thanks, I actually just found that amp for $65! And I saw on Alpine's website above the amps they have some headunit power packs. I'm a n00b and it kind of freaked me out.

That headunit power pack works really good if you don't feel like wiring another amp in for a power boost for the mids/highs.

Pushes my Type R 6x8's very nicely, even with power output only half the rms rating of them.

I'm just running my speakers off the head unit though. May eventually drop money and an amp to power them too though.

Oh sweet. Of course iOS doesn't support FLAC and its too much trouble to convert it all to ALAC so ill just get a DAC and stick with my 30gb if I want the real deal lol.

So I was wondering: this amp I'm looking at says its RMS power is 250 watts at 4 ohms. I believe that's a perfect match for my alpine sub. I posted the specs of my sub a page back. I can get it for $54.98 with free shipping!

It was Alpines intention for the M250 amp to match up with the bassline series suboofers.

Just remember to set your gain with a multimeter if possible, using ohms law.

the square root of rms watts times ohms resistance or in the case of your potential set up,

250w x 4ohms = 1000 the square root of that is 31.6 that is the AC voltage you want to see coming from the speaker outputs at full volume.

I wish I could score the alpine amp but I can't find it for a low price. I may end up paying full price for it though. Thanks!

Bah, I still maintain that using a dmm is a weak method for setting your gains.
If you don't have access to a scope, learn how distortion sounds and set it by ear.
The only time I ever used a dmm is matching outputs on multiple amps.
And even though I have a scope, I still don't use it to set my gains. I don't know why people make such a big deal of such a menial task.

Not everyone has the "ear" to hear distortion thats why i used a dmm for mine.

I try to verify it by ear after i have the appropriate voltage output set.

I would like to get the DD-1 from D'Amore engineering but i haven't been able to justify the cost . . . yet.

Or you could just ditch the whole iPod/iTunes thing and get a android phone (native flac support) or of you want a player look at iAudio, much better play back and flac support.

I've been established in iTunes for several years and I have a few iPods. I prefer iOS to Android for a few reasons, and actually dislike Android for a few (if I dropped iOS I'd be going to Windows Phone).

This is my 30gb 5th gen iPod. I have Rockbox installed on it which will play FLAC or other formats I can't think of now, except for my download of DSOTM where most songs are over 6000 Kbps. The 5th gen also has the best integrated DAC put in an iPod (to my knowledge).

Slim version? sounds interesting, does it have a different model number?

Sorry for the misleading info. I was working for my girlfriend's dad when I posted that. It's not a technical "slim version", it's just the 2013 model, which happens to me smaller and slimmer, and is apparently less prone to overheating. Sometimes you have to really dig online for the deals. I did a quick eBay search and the cheapest I found was about $160, did some online digging and found a posting on eBay for $90 with free shipping and no tax since its coming to CA from NY.
