Hi all, got a question about my new to me Ranger (94 xlt). I was hooking up the aftermarket tape player that came with it yesterday, and when I plugged in the grey plug (pwr and grnd by the looks of it) the tail and parking lights came on. It doesn't matter if the radio is plugged into the harness or not, the lights are on when that plug is in. Any suggestions?? thanks for the help.

It almost sounds like for some odd reason you are shorting the lights to complete a circuit somehow. I Don't how through the radio though.

un plug the radio... they should turn off.lol

sounds like the illumination lead of your radio.. orange or orange/white wire is getting power from somewhere on that grey radio plug

Something in your radio or in the aftermarket harness is bassackwards. Something in there is crossing the radio's illumination wire with the radio's power wire. As a result, that main power is backfeeding to your light circuit.

the illumination was hooked into the 12V supply. Thanks for all the help

I tried installin a kenwood dnx7140 now my dash lights and driving lights dont work i looked up wiring diagrams and tried to figure out what wire is the illumination or dimmer wire on the truck no fuses are blown the wiring diagram say a lightblue/red wire is the dimmer wire but their is two of them i dont know which one is which and if thats the problem i cut off the old harness off the old 6 disk radio is their a certain way i have to hook up the dimmer wire.....

This happens all the time with head unit work.

Check the fuse for the parking lights which is probably in the underhood Distribution Box. I can't help you with the fuse number or color codes because you didn't give the year of your Ranger.
