i run my 1400watt in mine all the time but i have 140 amp alt.

That would depend on if you want the battery charged at the same time. keep in mind that the full current from an alternator is only available above about 2000 RPM. The inverter actually is running off the battery, I would not run more than 1000 watts, any more and you probably should be running a genset.
