Default Factory stereo

First off, hello everyone. I am new here as I just picked up a 2000 XLT extracab. It has been stripped of all the original speakers and the wiring for the head unit has been messed with to. I have the factory unit hooked back up with the one plug that is still there, but cannot check it out because the factory speakers are missing. My question is, what size speakers do I need to install, what will fit. And what about factory plugs for the head unit? It has only the one plug now. Being 57 I am not real interested in a high dollar system, just factory will be fine.
Thanks
Keith

factory is a 5x7 but you can get a 6x8 to fit right in for a really good price, around $60 a pair and they sound good way better than factory, if you have a walmart near that have pioneer one there.

Thanks for the reply. Is that 5X7 for the doors and back panels?

Thanks for the offers but I just ordered all new ones from Clutchfield. But if anyone has the factory plugs for the head unit I would be interested in them. Need to have 3-4" of wire so I can match them up and splice them back in. I will have the RCA pigtails and wiring that runs to the rear, guessing it was for the amps, if anyone needs them. But wont be taking it out till I get back in about a month.

Agreed.....Hopefully you went with the 6x8...Pioneer makes speakers that are "Custom fit Ford/Mazda." They screw right in...plug and play

Don't want to threadjack, but will 6x8's fit in a 2001 XLT too? My factory speakers are weak and I've been told good things about the Wal Mart Pioneer ones by my resident audio nut. Problem is he doesn't usually do Fords (he's a VW guy) so he has no idea what will fit and I'm still a bit clueless.

I would do some research before you buy some new speakers. Yes, 6X8's will fit, but I still wouldn't go with walmart speakers. Even if they are quality they are overpriced. I bought some infintiy 6 X 8's and there great, but I wish I would have done more research first, because I know I could have done better.
