Default Need experienced audio buff.

Looking to power my new Kicker 100w RMS speakers with an amp, but in order to make it fit, i'd have to use a 5 channel amp and replace my dedicated mono amp for my kicker CVT 10" 400w RMS sub. Now, the one im looking at has 470w RMS through the sub channel and 60w x 4ch, but its the only amp that gets close to the RMS rating on the sub. Is there a way to lower the power output to the sub so I don't blow it? The kickers are pretty damn loud on the 19w coming out of my new headunit, so under-powering them isn't a problem.

Why dont you just get a 4channel amp for your highs or whatever speakers you're trying to power and keep the amp you got on the sub you got?

Perhaps space is limited.

I do setups like this all the time, it sounds like you're going the right route with the 5 channel. Of course you'll be able to adjust the amount of power going to the sub, it's full range adjustable like any other amp.

Yes you can control it with the gain. The good news is when you overpower systems like that you get to turn the gain way down which actually lowers distortion Now on the flip side you can save some money and get a 4ch amp that is stable at 2 ohms (most if not all are) and just wire your door and rear speakers together in parallel. You will loose the fader with this setup though. Finally you can get a 4ch amp and just use it to run the front doors and the sub and use your decks rear speaker output to run the rears. This way you get your fader back. Generally you want your rear speakers lower (quieter) than the fronts but that only if your really really into sound. Most people don't care about that. Hope this helps.
