Talking My Subwoofer addition

I have been looking around the web for a while for ways to put a subwoofer into a ford ranger. I wanted to make it for around $300 which is exactly what it cost. I bought all my parts at home depot and the carpet at a sound shop. I wanted it to look as OEM as possible so I spent a lot of time and made 2 boxes because the first one split on all the screws.

I decided to post this because after looking on the web, I wasn't able to find very many ideas. I hope this helps anyone aspiring to make a box. By the way, the only wood working experience that I had was from my high school wood working classes. I managed to make this myself though. I think that it is about 1 cubic foot.

Lets get to the pictures then:

Let me know what you think. Also, these pictures were taken with my HTC Evo so the quality isn't that great.

Thanks. It took me about 2 days to make the box because i'm a beginner and a few hours to wire. It sounds so clean.

Just to help you out with possible future box builds: To keep from spliting the wood like that just pre-drill the holes first or use a brad nailer + wood glue. Brad nailer can be had at Harbor Freight for approx $15 on sale. Option "C" is to just use glue and clamps.

I didn't have clamps so I couldn't go that route. What I wound up doing was pre drilling the holes in my second box, then counter-sank then, then when I used screws, I used a super-low tork setting. That was the solution.

Thanks guys for all the compliments on the box.

I used 3M 77 adhesive spray. It worked very well. I bought it at home depot.

Painless predrill/countersink in one step =

Also using screws with a threadless shank at the top = or > to the thickness of the wood it passes through will apply 100% of the screws clamping force to the joint.

Anyway you produced a hell of a final result!!
