Did they have separate amps in 1998 Rangers?
I've got this nice Premium Sound Cd/Cassette player that I pulled from a 1998 Ford Explorer and it worked good on my 98 Ranger. I don't have Premium Sound originally. Mine was AM/FM Cassette originally. In some of the online Ford parts catalogs they show a separate amplifier bracket and amplifier for the 98 Ranger w/ Premium Sound. I've never seen on in the salvage yards so I imagine it was not a frequent bought option on 98's. In the factory service manual the radio wiring diagram and on the FordRangerStation the 1998 radio wiring diagram shows only the radio and 4 speakers. I know the XL's only came with 2 speakers mine is an XLT and has 4. I have a 98 factory brochure which say the 80-Watt Premium Sound system Cd/Cassette with RDS was the top of the line option for XLT and Splash models. 80-Watt seems like it should have an amplifier but I'm not sure I'm not good to ask about audio. Was the 80-Watt just what the RDS cd/cassette/radio was rated at out of 4 speakers or was there indeed a separate amplifier. I actually would like to have the Premium Sound system not aftermarket in my Ranger. I like the factory look and simplicity of the settings on the radio and even the stock speakers still sound clearer than my redone factory Dodge Dakota's 100-Watt Infinity system. Does anyone here actually have a 98 with Premium Sound that knows for sure they have a factory amp?
