Default Simple Radio?

The 2009 Ranger I picked up has a Bluetooth ready Pioneer radio in it and comes with a remote. Is there a simple, old school radio that doesn't require a rocket scientist level of knowledge to figure out available for this truck? Just a simple down and dirty stereo radio that has am/fm, maybe a cassette player or CD player at the most.

Does the NEW radio require you to use the remote in order to use it? If not then toss it into the center console or glove box and forget about it.

If not dont feel bad about challenging yourself and learn something new. Your hand is more adapt at learning a remote than having to look away from the road. Think about it, do you really look at your TV remote when changing stations or volume? Probably not even in the dark.

Its as close to telekinesis as we/you may afford to get... lol

To effectively use it, yes, the remote must be used. Really stupid idea from where I sit. I have the push buttons memorized on my wife's car and don't need to look at the thing when making adjustments to volume or other. Just not a fan of added complications. Driving down the road I can set a radio station in just a few seconds by holding down the preset button until it beeps. Dead simple. Being in tech I learn several new things daily and don't want to bother with the tech BS in my life outside of work!! Yes, it is getting close to retirement time.

Yes, God does have a wild sense of humor. Guess I am burned out on the technical side of life. Was a time when it made sense, now it simply complicates it because it has gone too far and the developers have a difficult time understanding user interface (one of the great attributes of Apple products). Just want it simple, so simple an idiot like me can use it.
Yes, the software engineers have been pissing me off lately.

I feel the same way, but then I turned 75 today. One of the changes I made to my 2000 Ranger, was to swap out the AM/FM/CD radio for an old Mercury Grand Marquis push button unit. Even that is more overkill than I need. --- John

Waterlooboy2hp I like your solution. What model year Marquis is the radio from? Looks like it belongs there.

First let me say, that it is not a plug and play set-up. It requires some mods to the radio in order to make it all work.

I am not sure of the year, buy think the car was from the 80s. Pretty sure the unit was used in other Ford product models as well. I did not make any changes to the Ranger at all. Only thing I used from the ranger radio, was the slide support clip on the rear of the radio. Had to drill some new holes in the Marquis radio to adapt it.

Had to fab some new clips on the sides of the radio, to hold the radio to the Ranger bezel. Now when you remove the bezel, the radio comes out with it.

The plug and some 6" of wire was cut from the Marquis harness and spliced in behind the harness plug in the Ranger. Color codes matched, except for 2 wires. Left them for last and they turned out to be for the 4th speaker. There was a 1/2" gap above the radio, so in my case, I used some wood grain material to match up with my shifter console. ----- John

No disrespect, BUT I'm taken back by the amount of "techno-fright" people that congregate this forum at times..

Spend some time, google an owners manual. Likely find a .PDF file that you can download. read the basics and spend 5 mins of impatient life doing something for you and learn a new skill set, even if its learning a simple aftermarket radio functions. Or have a 10 yr old neighbor kid walk you through it for $5 or an ice cream..

You would be surprised how many drivers cause crashes by playing with their complicated sound systems.

I find that to be some UN talented individuals then..

I've had to manually answer a phone, while traveling, pouring a drink into a cup with a straw so I didn't have to unscrew the cap while turning down a radio and still checking out the hottie in the BMW next to me as I kept up with her from the light describing her to said buddy on the phone... and still had my head on a swivel looking for the random other non paying attention drivers.

I'm sure some would be struck in aww by that thinking omgawd how are you not 2 and 10 and focused on just driving undistracted?

But to be honest, your comment rings true as a fair majority of people can't chew bubble gum and walk at the same time any more. It's a wonder they're not victims of their own circumstances.
