Default Speaker Reccomendations

So the Speakers in my Ranger aren't in the best shape and I've been thinking of getting them replaced for a while now. The front passenger speaker is dead and the rear driver speaker is starting to fade a little while the other two have a nasty habit of rattling and sounding like they are becoming loose in their housings.

Does anyone have any speaker recommendations for a 2007 Ranger. I want to keep the Factory head unit (6 Disc CD Model with AUX port down low) and I really don't want a speaker box in the back seat area as it is used quite frequently for passengers and general cargo. Something that is better than stock but something that isn't gonna shake the door panels off.

Thanks in Advance!

If you're shopping around for speakers and want to keep the oem headunit be sure to look for something with a high sensitivity.

90+ dB is a number to look for.

To help with rattles i'd also suggest a sound dampening door kit too.

If your speaker pockets in the doors are the same as our models in south africa, a 6 inch speaker should fit. I reccomend you fit them with mdf spacers and use some sound deadening material on the panel behind the speaker to minimize rattles. Sony, pioneer, jvc etc, any of those brands will give good sound quality on a stock head unit. Just be warned the power output fiqures on these speakers are completely bs. Theyre all rated with p.m.p.o, or 1000watts of music free distortion.... turn the box over and look for the rms value or nominal power. You should be looking for 35watts rms but no more than 45watts rms. I hope this helps!

I am also looking to upgrade the speakers in my 2010 Sport. Not sure what would be the best for front doors and rear doors. full-range speakers (2/3 way) and or component speakers.

Not directed at RangerRich - just the post in general caught my attention

Whatever happen to the days where ya drove your ass around to a few of the local shops with a pack of CD's, or in today's world a thumb drive or Bluetooth device (which btw does little for sound quality) and listen to a few sets of speakers with music YOU are familiar with and used your own ears and judgement? from there you trickle in your budget, bump yourself for something better or grind for a deal cause your on a beer bottle budget with a champagne wish list...

granted, there is a metric shit ton of garbage out in the audio industry these days but formulate an opinion of your own. Everyone hears something different.

That all being said.. Go to some of the Higher end shops.. Why? Because likely you will find something you've never heard of that impresses you and that might create a sense of urgency for a new demand.. Quality

Otherwise everyone else below that sells the same big box store typical and basic bullshit.. Pioneer, Kenwood, Infinity, and Alpine.. and then you get into sub par products below that which come from flea markets to Ebay.

If all your looking for is basic-basic skip my first 4 paragraphs and only listen to this one.. You'll be fine with Big box store typical-basic gear.

Not saying you need to dump $4500+ into an audio system first time around but if Sound Q(uality) and quality overall is anything to your sense of values.. By something worth having. I have an Old Eclipse had Unit 7001 - its 2 years older than my oldest son at near 21 years of age. I have yet to find anything come close with the build or sound quality that unit offers - 1995 was a $2300 head unit with the 6 Disc changer. I still have it, its flawless in operation, and still offers value. Still have audio guys/techs offering me $1200-1300 for it a few months ago. Won't give it up but they know its worth.

just sharing thoughts and long term audio experiences, you can tell me to go pound sand.. its just my opinions

And not "tune" your enclosure to the same frequency at which your particular truck resonates at...

I agree, unfortunately those places are gone (at least were I live). When I was younger there were "car stereo" shops and that's exactly what I used to do. Even the big box stores (Best Buy etc...) have limited or NO car stereo sections.

I want to keep my O.E head unit and just want to upgrade the crappy stock speakers.

From what I see on-line the fronts are 6" X 8" and I'm not sure the size of the rear door speakers. Can someone confirm the sizes for the front and rear door speakers ?

The OEM speakers are 6x8, which is not a common size for most other car manufacturers. Aftermarket speakers usually market their 5x7s as fitting 6x8s via an installation ring.
