Way late and you may never read this or you may have already acted on your own but:
I have 6.5 components in my truck. I just straight up screwed up the doors
After cutting the door hole wide enough to make room for the 6.5 mids, I made an adapter out of 3/4 MDF board. I actually put the adapters in the door- if you put them on top of the door hole the speaker will hit the plastic door panel. I put egg carton foam behind the adapters to break up the backwave. I layered the outer door skin and inner door skin with stinger roadkill. I created a "ring" where the speaker mounts to the adapter out of black RTV so the speaker would seal well and so there would be no annoying vibrations. I placed another ring of RTV on the adapter where it sets up against the inner door skin again to create a seal and prevent annoying vibrations. I used plexiglass, RTV and stinger roadkill to seal the doors, but I left all the holes for the plastic inner door panel. I also placed stinger roadkill all around where the speaker goes.
As for the tweeters, I just got the appropriate sized holesaw from a hardware store and put the holes forward of the door handle black part centered between it and the dash. I mounted the crossovers inside the cab- the drivers side crossover on the relaybox near the gas pedal (with snap-lock type strips so I could easily pull it out), and under the kick panel on the passenger side. My crossovers are huge, so I imagine any component crossovers could be mounted here. Of course, that meant I had to run twice as much wire into the door which is a pain, but its worth it because the crossovers dont get exposed to water leaking into the door and because you can change your tweeter cuts at will without removing the door panels.
I know this thread is old and the OP may never see it, but it might be a starting point for someone else considering 6.5" components in their truck.
