Default Radio loses signal constantly

My 1995 ranger with an aftermarket kenwood deck keeps losing radio signal completely. i will be driving along and the radio will go silent, no stations will have any sound, and if I seek it can't find any stations, it does this on both AM and FM. If I shut it off and turn it on 75% of the time I will get radio back, but only for a minute or two, sometimes it will cu out going over bumps but other time on smooth sections of road. There is no static when it cuts out, just silence. Aux in and USB still work. Is this an antenna issue? or an issue with the deck itself? Any ideas on how to troubleshoot the issue? thanks

First I would check the antenna connection.
Sounds lose.

I've checked all connections behind the radio and they are all tight, anywhere else I should check? Could it be at the antenna or is it just one piece with no plug or connection?

Actually, something I should mention is the wire that comes from the kenwood deck labelled antenna isn't attached to anything so I don't even know where it gets the signal from, or would that be antenna for satellite radio maybe that isn't attached?

A wire labeled antennae is probably 12v to raise/lower a power antennae. If your radio cuts out and there is NO static, it isn't the antennae. Sounds like the deck (radio part) is on its way out.

Alright that makes sense, thanks. I guess I'll have to look into replacing the deck.

I have a spare sony deck at home but I have never wired a deck before so I wonder if all kenwood decks have the same plug so I could plug and go without re-wiring the deck...

Not too familiar with aftermarket audio anymore, but your deck most likely has wires coming out of it that you would connect to the adapter plugs that are made to fit the factory wiring harness. You would have to rewire the new deck to the existing adapter. It really isn't that difficult as long as the wires are clearly marked OR the diagram is on the deck itself (some are).
