Default 1998 rear speaker size ... i am confused

hey folks ... i have a 1998 ford ranger xlt standard cab. everywhere i look it says that the speaker size for the back speakers is 6x8. However it seems that mine is not that way. 6x8 speakers are too small (see pics) ... unless i am missing something.

Is there a mounting plate or something that my truck is missing? i just bought the truck and am fixing it up!

thanks in advance!

Wheres the grill?

If i recall, the speaker mounts to the grill, then the grill fastens to those 4 speed clips..

thanks ... apparently i don't have the grills (i just bought the truck and am starting to fix it up) ... that would explain a lot!

i'm thinking of not bothering with rear speakers and maybe eventually adding a powered subwoofer

And I just know I'll be hung on a cross for suggesting by someone..

Its a small space a rather conservative approach would be a single 8" or 10" in one of the jump seat areas, a 4-channel amp of 50x4 to 120x4 in the other side. Run the front channels to the obvious suggested 3way setup with some good sound deadening work done, bridge the two rears for the sub in a sealed enclosure for all around good sound quality.

A 6"-8" Mid-bass in the door with a 4"-5.25" mid and separate tweeter in the kick panel with some Q/logics (unless you're handy with fiberglass work), set the active X-overs in the amp right.

Tune to taste.. enjoy

Call it a day..

Unless you want the unnecessary attention and the desire to pass a kidney through your colon, disregard my comment.. lol

----------

.

I am sure someone on here dismantling a truck will have the correct interior colored grills for sale. Worse case, make something of your own and make one side to highlight your fuse distribution block(s) and the other for the passive x-overs for the front stage.

I agree with him ^ but I would skip the 3 way Comp and just run a regular 2 way up front to keep it super simple, easier to mount and can be had for way less moolah. Use a decent sub that doesn't sound like garbage playing higher up and you'll be laughing.

If you just want to get the speaker to work there, go to Walmart or Ikea and buy 2 cheap plastic cutting boards. Cut them to fit the square hole and cut them to fit the 6x8. Cheap indestructible adapters.

Ain't that the truth! Would make for a good 'what's wrong with my truck' thread though

thanks for the responses (including the funny ones lol) ... so i installed a single din pioneer head unit (i'm an old guy i like the single din look lol) and put pioneer 2ways in the door.

i think my plan will be to just add a powered subwoofer (probably a thin one under the passenger seat) since it's a standard cab ... i was thinking of something like this one ...

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_777B8P...TD.html?tp=114

anyone have any experience with it?

i do not need to shake the doors off ... i just want something to expand the bass for a fuller sound!

Should provide just enough fill to round it off...

I havnt heard that exact compact, but I have heard the Rockford and jbl. They don't do the business for me but if your just after a bit more low end they get the job done.
