Default Aftermarket alarm?

Can you guys confirm that this is some aftermarket add on from a previous owner. Trying to eliminate draw on my battery during cold weeks where I don't run the truck very much. I doubt this draws much but would still like to get rid of it if it's not doing anything.

Definitely something aftermarket. Are there any letters/numbers on that module?

Thought so. Nope, just an FCC ID and some date code (1999).

I'd bet against that being your current draw issue.

All that is is a DEI wannabe Keyless entry module. Red is ign, Yellow should be Hot (however that could be reversed), Blk ground [the obvious] and the smaller blue and Green should run into a small relay pack or separate external relays as Ford uses Reverse polarity 5-Wire door locks...

The thing sticking out of the headliner is just an extended range antenna with what I would assume also doubles as some sort of Valet switch or possibly a programming switch. Both the ERA and the Box are generic as multioptions for various models of the brand.

The good news is despite the rat nest wiring job. That's likely a 3rd party that comes out to the Dealership you purchased it at or possibly if that was a preowned vehicle, the previous owner had/was forced to installed.

Poor mans idea, take pic of fuse box, attach VOM to it and pull fuse at a time until the voltage drop stops. last one pulled is your culprit...

hope that helps some

Thank you for the input. Could this explain why I can't program a key fob even thought he truck engages the programming mode?

Are you trying to program a factory Ford FOB or an aftermarket one that should go with that brand/unit?

If you're trying to program a FORD Factory FOB for that year(s) issuance of FOBs.. it will not program to that aftermarket unit.

Ebay fob that supposedly works with factory unit.

Another great mystery of my ranger unfolds.

Is this easy to reverse?

Yea, thats not going to happen with that unit. With the factory unit maybe. If I recall, Code Alarm was deep in Ford with supplying Ford with a multitude of options as they were the only bastard company that used Positive triggers and ouputs. Most of us alarm/remote start guys hated them because with anything else other than a Ford, you had to add a shitload of relays to every install. As cars got tighter packed with options and harnesses despite the vehicles growing in size it became harder and harder to hide shit under the dash without getting too meticulous to the point where under performance paying employment options lent to shortcut installs such as that rat nest wiring install your truck was awarded..

Code Alarm wasn't too far outside of Dearborn, MI when that contract was bought and it really boosted Code Alarm back in the Day. I think they were in Madison Heights or Troy, MI back then. been awhile when I lived there and worked with their product lines.

the faster the install, the faster on to the next job, the better your pay was. All FOMO inspired jobs now.. and for real good work where someone takes real pride in their work because their reputation rides on it and the service (S)He may provide as an installer.. you're gonna pay for it usually.

Which is fine of course if you like that person and how they treat you/your truck and you look for a long term work relation with that individual. Dont discount the females either, Ive worked with two females that could out install most males in that industry.. just rare to find one in Audio/Alarms anymore.

Sorry, tend to have some useless info at times too... :/

Thanks for the info. I don't mind the useless info. Sounds like I'll leave it be for now and continue opening my door the old fashioned way.

lol

Id contact the dealer, search old paperwork in glovebox/Manuals bag and see if there is anything relating to the installation of it or the original dealer and or even their service dept or they may even have a specific person for handling any and all aftermarket vendor work; Fords always been big enough to do that in the average dealer scope of payscale and manpower at most dealers. Maybe you could contact them for a pair of remotes. I'd expect to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $35-60 ea. both because of age and rarity.. mehhh

HOWEVER, You may again be able to search Ebay or Amazon for a better deal on originals and with a brand name that may be going with that newly recieved info. might be able to for sure pull up some owners/installation manuals for future trouble shooting or programming needs.

Looks like Code Alarm lets you search by FCC ID for replacement fobs. I'd guess that is unique to the unit, maybe I'll price that out.

That is not a Code Alarm unit though.. That case and Main harness connector and its colors used are remnants of a DEI based product.. Think of anything named after a Snake or insect and you're in the right direction.

http://www.directed.com/Brands/

Thats possibly an Automate unit but unclear. That case was sold to many offshoot self branding companies. thats why I suggested contacting either the dealer you purchased it from or the previous dealership if that was a preowned vehicle purchase by you.
