Default Reverse cable for a 1997 (backup camera)?

I'm installing a backup camera with a double din unit. I'm looking for the reverse indicator wire and I think I'm looking for a black/pink wire.

My searches keep finding information for newer rangers and F-150's. Does anyone know about this era of Ranger specifically?

You mean where to tie into your reverse circuit to power the camera when shifted into reverse?

It doesn't really power it. It sends a signal to the head unit that the vehicle is in reverse.

Ahhh, so that the head unit automatically switches without having to change the mode? I don't believe it has anything to do with reverse. I could be wrong, but I believe that just takes a 12v ignition wire to the HU, so that it's already powered there, in which case when reverse is engaged, it will automatically switch.

The HU has to know the vehicle is in reverse so it can display the rear camera. That's what the reverse wire is for.

WILL NOT find it inside. the closest you will find it is on the Inner fender liner, Gray 12 pin plug. I've done something similar for a specific reverse light and you can find more info in this post.

Reverse light switch

A reverse switch? It should. It's generally high on the drivers side of the trans, all I've seen so far have a red plastic connector on the switch side of the connection. Usually requires a 22mm wrench to remove.

My manual trans is is a mazda trans itself and it has it so I would have to assume yours is the same.
