Default volume restriction on stock radio

My volume on my stock radio will only go about half way and then it drops down to low. Can't go past half way. It is very aggravating. Was this way when I bought it and haven't figured how to fix. It had to be a setting somewhere but I just can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated..
Thanks
I have a 2002 xlt 4x4 4.0 Ranger with the stock radio

Default volume restriction on stock radio

My stock ranger radio will only go to just below half volume and if I try and go higher it automatically drops back to very low. I assume it has a setting in there somewhere to restrict the volume but I cant seem to figure it out. I'm not talking about when I shut the truck off and then restart....I'm talking just trying to turn the radio up to a higher level. I have no pre amps or anything like that. Just the stock radio on a 2002 ford ranger 4x4. Was like this when I bought it couple years ago.
Please let me know if anyone can figure this out or has had this problem.
Thank you
Roland

It's time for a new radio. Stock radios are cheap enough on ebay.

I don't think it is a restriction. More likely, the volume knob is worn out and not functioning properly. I've noticed my 04 will occasionally drop to low volume if I spin the knob trying to raise it quickly.

There can be bad spots on the potentiometer, but if you turn it wide open the volume should be maximum regardless of the bad spots.
