Replacing Speaker Wires
Hello,
This is my first post!
I have a 2011 Ford Ranger Sport Ext. Cab (Rear Suicide Doors)
I want to swap out my speaker system. Already have once... Put in a single DIN pioneer deck and put 4 3-way 6x9s in the doors. However, I love my music loud and want that rumbling bass, and this system isn't good enough for me anymore. I'm looking to install a Double DIN deck with nav, four 5-way 6x9s in the doors and two 10" subs. I want to power the 4 6x9s with a 4-channel amp and a 2-channel amp for the 10s. Everything will be Pioneer brand. That's what I used before, it's done me well so I think I'll stick with them again.
Anyone with experience installing sound systems like this, feel free to provide advice or criticisms on my planned setup. I've done some reading but if you feel there is a better way to go about this set up, I'd love to hear your suggestions. My budget for this DIY system is around $1,500, and I want the best bang for my buck.
Being an electrical apprentice, I know that the larger the wire the better. With it being amplified, I think I want to isolate the existing harness out and pull in new larger gauge speaker wire. My question is has anyone ever done this? If so was it a pain to fish the wires? What did you use to fish them the entire length of the cab? Has anyone ever put in a sound system in a ext.cab and if so how long did it take? I imagine that it might be a whole weekend project, especially with running the new wires.
If anyone has installed subs and amps, where do you suggest I place the amps? It's pretty tight as some of you may know, and I'm probably going to end up removing the back seats because they're useless. I've had 5 people in that truck once, and it was an ill advised idea.
Thanks for your input, and I look forward to learning from other Ranger owners!
