Default Opinion on swapping factory head unit to aftermarket

I'm a little torn between the two! I want to keep my truck stereo stock, it sounds good and functions great, but also I was thinking of swapping it out with a pioneer DEH series. I used to have a DEH in my old truck and I loved it. Only thing thats getting me is the aftermarket player will give me an extra cubby I dont need and I think it may look funky. Anyone do this kind of swap and your thoughts pictures or anything? Lame...I know but I just don't know what to do....

I had a pioneer deh series in my 2004 ranger edge for a while and it looked fine but i did not like the HU so i quickly swapped it for a Sony CDX-f7710 and i think it looks great now. I am using that HU to send signal to a pyramid 4 channel mid-range amp that runs four Clarion SRC5732 6x8'' and a Rockford Fosgate mono subwoofer amp that runs a Kicker 15" cvr. Its a great setup and looks good too.

Sounds good, thanks. I'm not setting up amps or anything like that, I just want something similar to the factory head unit

An aftermarket headunit will make stock speakers sound pretty good. Not great, but it's an improvement over the stock headunit.

Well after about 2/3 of the max volume on the HU the speakers will get super distorted. It does that with the factory HU too but not as bad as with an aftermarket HU. (Depending on the RMS output per channel on the HU) This is where quality speakers come into play. If you want crystal clear sound at max volume though you will need a mid-range amp.

I wish those pictures didn't come out so blurry. I had to manually focus it because of it being so dark it wouldn't Auto-focus. I had to just kinda guess on the focus.
