I just want to make sure I have this right. I need a sub with either a single 4 ohm voice coil or one with dual 2 ohm coils? Is that correct?

That is correct. That's the only way to squeeze out that 150 watts from your 4 ohm amp.

More stupid newbie questions.
New sub should be here today and I want to make sure I set everything right.
If I've read correctly,I want to use the crossovers on the head unit but,I'm still confused on the gain.It looks like the HU (Kenwood KDC-X300) has gain.Do I use it instead of the amp gain?If so,what do I set the amp gain knob at when using HU?
Sorry to ask all these dumb questions but, stupid questions are easier to handle than stupid mistakes. LOL

If I explain it, it will just confuse you more. Google search "how to adjust amp to stereo" and one the best explanations is given by Crutchfield.

Did you get your sub box? You have to get it just right with these reg cabs, or you will sacrifice leg room. I spent weeks searching and measuring. I was about to make my own box, when I came across the Kicker 10 inch rt. A mid-tier loaded enclosure from the factory. A match made in heaven for a reg cab ranger. It fits between the floorboard "ridge" and just under the back-wall "ridge." Here's my setup.

That would be in a 98 plus reg cab. 93-97 are smaller. My 97 there was virtually 0 room back behind the seats. I managed to shove 2 amps and a 8 inch sub behind the seats. It helped doing explorer buckets and center console. One amp is right behind the console, the other behind the driver seat and the sub behind the passenger. Passenger seat had to be moved up 1 click. But driver seat isn't effected.
