6-CD radio option for a 2010 XLT
My 2010 XLT came with the single CD and XM satellite radio factory unit.
I would prefer to have a factory 6-CD unit like was in my previous Ranger (2001).
What are my options for getting a 6-CD unit in the 2010 truck?
Thanks in advance,
Rick
------------
Via edit: Reading through the audio section of my manual again this afternoon, it appears there may have been a factory 6-cd unit available for the 2010 Rangers.
Does anyone happen to know (1) if that is indeed true, and (2) what the factory part number is for that audio unit?

You are better off with a Pioneer media reciever. CD's are obsolete nowadays and the stock headunits are junk.

Re: 6-CD radio option for a 2010 XLT
GLH, thanks for the offer. I'll probably bite the bullet and go for a new unit. I've owed three previous Rangers and had no trouble with the stock audio equipment but I have had an unfortunate experience with pre-owned stuff.
The previous Ranger I kept the longest was my 2001 XLT. I drove that truck off the dealer lot brand new with 18 miles on the odometer. The 6-cd unit in that truck performed flawlessly across the 10 years and 167,000 miles I put on the vehicle.
Back to the question about part number - does anyone have the part number for the OEM 6-cd unit that matches up with the XM option?

unfortunately at this point your only option is getting a reman unit from ford in what's called an exchange program. What you need to do is go to a yard find a radio with the options you want take it to a dealer and order one. They will need the engineering number in order to do that. It will probably run you anywhere from 200-300 bucks to do this

Well, yes. But djfllmn's post makes me think new may no longer be an option.

It is possible however like I said you would need to find a like for like radio and know your ESN number for the sat radio. Plus it would need programmed by a dealer. So in the end it may not be possible due programming issues. And once it's been installed in the vehicle it's yours not returnable then

Would you enlighten me, please, on the ESN number and how that relates to the satellite radio business?
I did not do the six month free sat radio deal so all that is unfortunately lost on me.

you would need that number for the new radio. It is the ID number for your radio. If you ever want to register for a subscription you need that number
