I have a question relating to the speaker wiring.

How is it that a + wire from one speaker shares the same wire as the - wire from another?

My 1991 4x4 4.0L Ranger has the following radio wire colors (I did not pay attention to what was pos or neg for speaker wires:

Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Green/Yellow
Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Yellow/Black
Radio Ground Wire: Black
Radio Illumination Wire: Blue/Red

Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Orange/Green
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Lt. Blue/White
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Green/Orange
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): White/Lt. Green
Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Pink/Green
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Brown/Yellow
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Black/White
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Orange/Red

Have fun!

FOR EVERYONE'S INFORMATION:

My '98 does NOT have a solid green wire for the 12v constant like it says it does in this guide. I have a green/purple wire from the radio, like the 95-97's. Maybe this guide should be edited for that.

Not sure if only some 98's are like this...

Thumbs up Re: Radio wiring colors

Absolute right on. Thanks for the chart the colors match perfectly and allowed me to hook up my new speaker box in minutes and correctly the first time with no blown fuse or wrong connections.

Does anyone know if 2011 is the same as 2009? I took my stock cd player out and put it back in, now the buttons won't light up.

I noticed that for the 2008 & 2009. Right Front - and Left Rear + are both White/Orange. Seems like the rear should be Brown/orange if it goes the same as the other rear wires - but who really knows?

Thanks for the info Big D, extremely helpful. My wife and I just bought our son's 2007 Ranger. He had a friend install an aftermarket audio system but it only worked with the lights on and lost presets when the lights were turned off. I pulled the unit out today and the truck wiring didn't match any of the diagrams until I found your information which appears to be exact. A little testing with the digital multi-meter tomorrow should get it fixed after I replace the blown 20A fuse for the battery feed.

The 2004 radio wire diagram.. In my 04 Edge, there is no yellow/black for the accessory. Its a solid Red Colour wire.. I went to add my CB radio the accessory and soon realized I didn't have it, so I busted out my meter and found it. Just a heads up..

What are you trying to find? My 04 wires have all the words on them for what they are.. like "Fnt Lft +" Meaning Front LEft Positive(speakers). Take a close look and see if yours are labled. It's kind of hard to see, I used a flash light. If not, grab yourself a meter and start testing..

No big deal. Constant (solid yellow)just not hooked up right. Red and yellow just might be backwards. Acc VS constant.

As for the lighting up and such...he probably hooked up the illumination/dimmer wire. Orange or orange/white, it's labeled on the wire. If you see those hooked up...cut them! I have NEVER hooked them up, they can cause a lot of issues sometimes.

Remember...those lines are HOT, make sure to cap them off
