so far so good...i have 3-way 6872's in the doors that i just put in, and we'll see how the 4-way 6882's sound in the back doors when i get 'em on thursday. amazon has 'em both rated 5 stars, and i read a lot of the reviews. for $130 for all 4 speakers, you can't really beat it. already i have to turn my volume up like 20% higher just to account for the more powerful speakers 'cause the stock speakers are 2-way paper cones rated at 25 rms. it sounds better, but i think all 4 speakers will really be the proof.

good luck!

the only luck I'm needing is for june 2nd to come along so I can get my speakers installed properly this time lol.

I have to say amping the stock speakers improved their sound tenfold though

don't pay someone to install speakers in a ranger! i'm no gearhead, and i did it myself with a screwdriver and a 6mm socket in under 20 minutes.

and yeah, i was thinking i'd have all 3-ways and then i found the awesome deal on the 4-ways, so i might just have to switch them to the fronts when i get 'em. they're coming tomorrow. stoked.

Actually, coaxial speakers are far better than 3 or 4 way. 4 and 5 way speakers are just gimmicky. Also, they dont handle 280 watts. Peak or max is a figment of their imagination.

How do you take off door panels to a 99 ranger to replace speakers?

50w RMS (for the Pioneers)

Actually most of these are designed to be pushed with a N/A HU that pushes 22w RMS per channel
though I did test these through a 5 channel amp that pushed 64w RMS at 4 Ωs and they worked great

Though I don't know why you brought that up...
I'm trying to sell these
and not claiming that 280w (Peak) had any significance

By the way RMS: Root Means Square
Which basically is a fancy name for the wattage rating it can handle constantly
Peak wattage is just what it can handle at short burst.

But yes they do throw the peak rating around loosely
my previous Pioneers were 40w RMS but rated with a 350w peak
No doubt rated that per a very high Hz (tweeter high range) output because of the 3 tweeters.

Pioneer makes some good low cost speakers (despite the 3-4 way "gimmick" / which is just additional tweeters)
for mostly your (non amp'd head unit) basic stereos.

If you want to pay more, get an amp and buy a more expensive speaker with higher RMS rating
better cone, magnet materials and includes an external crossover that separates the mids and highs with more clarity.

I upgraded to some 100w RMS 300w Peak 2 way 6x8s with cross over that can handle it a 2 Ωs
Though at 2 Ωs it make my amp running hotter thus shortening it's life.
They still sound great at 4 Ωs.

The 6x8's are either 2 ohms or 4 ohms, can't be both.

They are rated to run at 2 Ωs (bridged on amp for more power)
But it's fine to run it normally at 4 Ωs.

You can run a speaker anyway you want parallel, series, 0-8 Ωs, etc...
But if it's not rated for it, then don't bother.
Same for amps. A lot of people like to run at least 2 or more subs at 2 Ωs or lower but if your amp isn't rated stable at that resistance then you'll either cook it or shorten it's life.

I run a five channel amp, so I like to run everything at 4 Ωs. If I wanted more power or run more subs in parallel then I'd get a separate amp. A single 12" in a ported enclosure is plenty for me. I don't want to blow out my window seals.

But believe it or not, there are component speakers rated to run stable at 2 Ωs.

It's funny that you give out a lot of car audio advice and don't know this.
