Default radio question

i have a 01 ranger xlt that someone changed the radio in. i don't care for that radio so i went to the junk yard and they sold me a radio for an 01 ranger. i had to re splice the wires from the old radio back to the plug in the truck. i matched the wires and connected them and plugged in the radio and all i get is the clock if i push the clock button. the radio i got from the yard has 2 plug recepticals in the back and looking at the back on the right side is the only plug i have the next one i don't have any wires for. so did i get the wrong radio? the radio id got is only cassett style no cd. any help other that just a bad radio?

the radio i have with the 2 places to plug into are they both needed or is the second plug just for an amp? or do i need some type of adapter that is like a dummy that allow power to those pins in that plug? thanks

Why did you need to splice anything, if old & new radios are both for 2001 Ranger?
Both old & new radio should accept the SAME 16-pin red rectangular harness.
The 20-pin connector is for fancy secondary stuff, like CD-6 players & amplifiers.
The connectors should look just like the back of my 2008 radio, in here: http://imgur.com/a/xWGY6

Your 2001 radio wiring diagram is here:
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...diagrams.shtml

You can plug any Ranger radio into any other Ranger, if you make the short little adapter harness. But '01 to '01 should not need any adapter. It should plug in, directly.

You got pics?

it had an after market radio in it that i did not like. thanks for the wiring diagram. i may have a bad radio. i'm going out now and test the power wires but i think they may be correct as the clock comes on in run and acc. i don't think the clock would show if i did not have the power wires correct. and all the wires i re spliced had a place to go. i did not have any extra or short any wires. my radio in back looks the same as your picture thanks for that i have the wire diagram in my hands and will double check all connections before i return the junk yard radio. again thanks

I have the stock am/fm single cd/cassette player & is good enough for me. Even with the stock speakers it cranks quite loud.

Of course the stock head and stock speakers sound ok together. They were engineered to work together.
