Re: Best/Favorite Subs??
if your looking for a good cheap sub the new Kicker Comp R are pretty good. 500 RMS you really cant go wrong with that. I have a 1200 brutus wired down to 4 ohm and my sub goes in. Kicker makes a very good/reliable product.

Because that's what he does. He has very strong opinions on car audio, but he's usually right.
I've had kicker comp subs in the past. They got loud and sounded good doing it. If I was considering budget in my decision(I'm not), they would be on my list.

The kicker "COMP" is a joke the Comp R is the upgraded CVR. And the CVRs are honestly in my opinion are the best subs for the best price. I had a 1200 watt amp hooked up to
My CVR 12, and that thing bumped. They are so underrated.
----------
I've only been dealing with Kicker for my sound systems. They never gave me a reason to buy any other brand. JL and Kicker I believe are the best brands for subs for a reasonable price. But if you want competition go with Sundown.

I switched to RE audio for my most recent subwoofer. RE SEX12D2 is a great mid price range sub, cost about 189 a sub, 1000w rms. Couldn't be happier with my sub, way better quality then most subwoofers. 1 cubic foot sealed box is great for rock, country, and even some rap. I'd go ported if you play a lot of rap music. But if you want good quality, RE is where it's at

1000 rms or watts cause the new kicker CompR has 1000watts 500rms and it's only $140
----------
For that price you can get a sundown SA-12 and it's rated for 650 rms. but there so underrated, I've seen people wire a 1200 hifonics amp to 1 ohm and have the gain at 3/4.

I'm running mine at 1000w rms and it takes it easy. That sub is 600 rms technically but they can handle a lot more. I really don't care for kickers, aren't made with the same quality. RE are made with the similar quality as sundown
----------
Hifonics amps are not good quality either. I had one, isn't wasn't pushing the sub nearly as hard as my alpine mono block pushes. And the alpine is 1000 true rms and the hifonics was supposed to be bigger.

I should've been more clear, I had a few comp vr 10's. I've never tried the low end comp subs.
It's hard to go wrong with sundown. My 2 ported sa10s on an saz-1500d pounded and sounded good doing it.

I wanted to get sundown but I wanted SQ. So instead of buying a sundown SA-12 for $200 and a custom ported box for $150. I just bought the new kicker CompR. Rated for 500rms.

Make your own box! That's what I do, super easy and only about 70 bucks per build. Then you can make it look like whatever with any paintjob.

Re: Best/Favorite Subs??
I preordered my sa10s, which saved me some money. But I wanted a nice looking box, so I had one custom made with a battery compartment for $200. It worked out well. But I'm over being loud and obnoxious, so the sa10s are looking for a new home.

IF you build it the correct size for whatever sub you want AND if you put the correct sub in the correct type box. Some subs are made for sealed application, some are made for ported, very few do well in both. If you build a ported box, you have to be sure and get the port right for the sub so it is tuned correctly or it will sound horrible like a Kicker in a ported box.

As long as the Kicker subs are in the correct size sealed box, they will do ok.

I do my research, but I also know what I'm doing. I've been building boxes since I was 16. I will agree that it can be difficult but there are a lot of things online to help a newer person get their specs for boxes. I'm really OCD when it comes to a box and most woodworking I do though, some people just don't have the patience or pay enough attention to it.

Re: Best/Favorite Subs??
This may not be the best sounding sub to the pros but I got a 10" kicker bassstation(built in amp) and it kicks pretty good
