Default Left side is louder?

So I've got a 93 with stock speakers. Crazy, right? Anywho, I thought that the two right speakers were blown because they were extremely quiet, even at full blast, but my left side sounded fine. This weekend I bought two 6x9's, my plan to replace the back speakers with the new ones and use my old left speaker to replace the 'blown' right-front speaker. After I did this, I tested it and it sounds much better, but my right side is still really quiet. Could this be a wiring problem? I noticed that my right-side speaker wires were red and black, while the left ones were a yellow w/blue and some other color or something. Also, what is up with the plugs on the stock speakers? Lol

6x9's don't fit. You need 6x8's. The headunit is probably bad cause they are such junk. Also, the wiring is pretty dang old, ya know ?

Are you using the stock head unit or an after market one? It also sounds like the speaker wires were changed out on the right sometime because the colors do not match the stock wiring guide.

This could actually be a phase problem.

Forgive my stupidity, but what is a head unit? ^.^

The wiring in the harness that went to the stock speaker looked like it was original, it doesn't seem like it was redone but who knows? What kind of wiring would I need to replace those wires with?

Doubt its a wiring phase issue, especially if the lower frequency's still exist. If the speakers were out of phase from one another they would cancel out the lower frequency's and really sound "Blah" and "Bland".

Likely the head units amplifier section is either going "Kaput" or somehow the balance and fader are off center. On an added note.... I suggest putting the new speakers in the front unless your doing something better soon afterwards. I mean when is the last time you went to a concert? Did you stand with your back to it or face it?

As for wiring;

1993 Ford Ranger Stereo Wiring

Constant 12V+ Green/Yellow
Switched 12V+ Yellow/Black
Ground Chassis
Illumination Blue/Red
Dimmer n/a
Antenna Trigger n/a
Antenna Right Front

Front Speakers 5" x 7" Doors
Left Front (+) Orange/Green
Left Front (-) Black/White
Right Front (+) White/Green
Right Front (-) Black/White

Rear Speakers 5" x 7" Rear Corners
Left Rear (+) Pink/Green
Left Rear (-) Pink/Blue
Right Rear (+) Pink/Blue
Right Rear (-) Green/Orange

I put them in the back because of the better bass, and yes I am getting be front speakers with my next check. Thanks for getting the stereo wiring for me, I appreciate it. I'm also looking to replace my radio with something less green and more blue ;-) And......I've never actually been to a concert. Most of the bands I like don't come to Oklahoma lol

lol, Dont worry.. I dont admit to what bands I've been subjected to and I am a huge audiophile. better bass or not, had you not been adding anything more, which is why I asked, they would have been more enjoyable and served you better up front.

Consider investing a little more for better up front then when you do do the fronts. I've been working on a complete 3 way setup up front with no rears in my Standard cab. Dynaudio 7" midbass in the doors, Dynaudio 3" midrange and 1" soft dome tweet in the kick panels. The 7" receive 180w with active X-over and the mids and tweets receive 180w using the passive X-overs that came with the set Until I take the time to afford an RTA and a Bit One processor and go completely active X-overs. The rear has a special designed carbon fiber and Marine grade 3/4" Birch enclosure coming through the rear cab and bed that houses three 8" ARC Audio subs. A lot of time and money has gone into the Carbon fiber/brushed aluminum/Birch work on the enclosure, amp & Processor rack, Battery trays... I think I've already exceeded what KBB books my truck out for just in materials, not even components used...

LOL

----------

Oh, and I got tired of the head unit, and since in SoCal most radio stations suck or cant get a signal in any of the lower canyons or higher ones. I opted to flush mount my Galaxy Tab3 7.0 in the dash instead... I have youtube, Pandora, Soundcloud, 1700+ songs on file. Hell I can even skype from the drivers seat with it ! I am still considering an external 1TB HD Passport tucked under the dash somewhere with easy access still for up loads.

----------

Did you check your fader and balance controls btw?

Uh......wow.... That's a lot of stuffs.... Most of which I don't fully understand lol. But yeah, I've actually got my settings to the right a bit to compensate for its quietness. I'm actually formulating a plan to do 10" or 12" subs in the back seats, I think that'd be pretty cool. Not sure if anyone else has done it or not, just figure it'd be a cool project and taking point.

Haha, I tend to get into what I'm talking about sometimes, Some people get it. I am still in some design phase as for who I am doing in some cases and I've spent a little bit of money in inexpensive mock up before I go the distance and drop the money I'm preparing to do. Carbon fiber whether in raw material or 1/4 dry plate isn't cheap. 5 he aluminum pipe work and inserts. Each insert alone cost near $10 and I had to get 16. A lot of time spent running amuck in some metal shops looking for ideas and not ordinary things has been a huge task. I'm keeping a photo blog of everything I'm doing so.. I'll provide a write up.

I've had a single 10" which in a std cab is more than enough for me anymore. I've had my days and vehicles with a wall of woofers one side and a wall of amplifiers the other side. Gets old after awhile and I don't need that much attention anymore.. lol

----------

I think one of the more interesting aspects is I'm going to list every receipt and $ amount to show what was involved in total.

I replaced my head unit with a Dual 4120, when I took the old one out someone had spliced the radio together (quite poorly I might add.) after a little frustration and a lot of time, I got it working properly and its like a totally different truck. Much deeper bass, richer, cleaner sound, and it evened itself out, so no big problem there anymore. I appreciate all the help!!!

Glad it worked out. I hadn't heard of that head unit and went to crutchfield to check it out; its a good unit for a really good price. Awesome. Enjoy the tunes!
