Default Re: 2010 ranger new radio wiring harness?

I emailed Scosche about the FD16B connector and they got back to me. That one connector (on the left in the picture above) is supposedly all we need for the new radio. The other one is for cd changers, satellite, or steering wheel controls which my truck does not have. So, for me that one would be unused.

If anyone thinks differently, I'd love to hear back.

Would all of this info (dash kit, harness) also apply for the 2011 Ranger? I'm searching everywhere, and most info stops at 2009.

Also, regarding the connector on the left. In my truck, it seems that is for satellite and line-in connections. Is there a harness for that too?

You should wait for some expert to say yes or no. But, from a non-expert...
You can buy the tool to pull your radio for a few dollars. It's two "U" shaped metal rods with little balls on the end. With that, you can pull your radio in about 10 seconds, disconnect the connectors and post pictures of them. Then, people can answer you with confidence.

Fingers crossed for an expert. It's a 2011 Ford Ranger Sport.

Here is the stock double-din Pioneer DEH-2267ZF:

And these are the connectors:

I'm still not an expert but, that's exactly the same as my 2010.
The Scosche FD16B harness is for the smaller connector which I think is all you need for a "regular" system with no external components as I heard from the support dude at Scoche. The big connector is for amps, external CD changers, Sattelite, etc...

Thank you for the info!

I'm just planning on a basic setup for a while anyways, so the FD16B will be all I need.

I guess the only other thing I'm not clear on is which in-dash kit to use. Do all Rangers 2009-2011 basically have the same in-dash setup?

The "which kit" part seems to be an interesting topic. I have not done an upgrade so I can't be sure.
What I've heard (and I mean "I read it on the internet"...) is that the unit is a standard double din. But, some have had to do a little dremel based modification on the bezel frame to make a standard double din unit work. I don't understand completely. But, perhaps -- since a lot of the nice double din units have that nifty motorized screen moving feature to get to the CD and adjust viewing angle -- they had to remove some material from the bezel to allow that to move without being blocked.

I think you'll just figure that part out when you go to install.

It is hard to believe that people are having trouble upgrading their stock unit. I knew almost nothing about car stereos until about a week ago when I removed my wife's one disk OEM from our Ford Edge (the display went out). The connections in the back are nearly identical to the one pictured. To my understanding, the round wire is for the antenna signal, and I assumed the other two wires with the pin holes were both needed. It is correct that she has the Sirius option, but we let that expire after the free trial. Anyway, I know that the stereo is a double-din, and when shopping around, I was not very impressed with crutchfield. I wanted a basic radio and went with a unit by www.sonixelectronix.com (spelling). By typing in the Make/Model of the vehicle, possible solutions pop up along with the wiring harness. I went with a simple plug-n-play so I don't have to deal with extra adapters/wires etc., but they realized that I would have a gap and basically provided the harness for free. I'll try and give a link to show what I mean.

If you make a signature with all your Ranger info, we can help you easier.

Don't need an amp or speakers, just a deck.
Just need to know which wiring harness and dash install kit to get.

From what I gather on this site and the Internets, to install a new double-DIN in my 2011 Ranger, I'll need:

Scoche FD16B wiring harness
Metra 95-5817 dash kit

It's inexpensive enough to order the parts try it out. Once I can do the install after the holidays, I'll post my pics.

Lots of parts stores actually stock that stuff on the shelves.

If you have the stock Pioneer audio system, I don't believe there is a wiring harness adaptor that will work with a new aftermarket head and the stock Pioneer amp. Sorry ...

I'm not concerned with connecting the stock Pioneer amp. I just need a wiring harness and dash kit to work with an aftermarket head.
