Default Expo console sub

Hey guys, I am still on the hunt for expo seats and console, but i have started toying with the idea of glassing a small 6 or 8 inch sub into the back of the console. I was curious what you guys think of the idea, is that small of a sub "worth it"?What kind of box would be needed? Also has anyone done this before?

An 8" might be worth it. Depends on which 8" and if it is tuned and powered correctly.

GLH as you know I am an audio noob, can you elaborate a little?

As well as more questions I have
>How important is box size with port size? >Opinion on shallow mount subs?
>Thoughts of square subs?

If by square sub you mean Kicker, sealed only.
Each sub has it's own set of parameters which dictate sealed or ported or either, size of enclosure, tuning of enclosure.
Shallow subs mainly sound like someone is beating on a plastic bucket with a stick. Sealed only with shallow subs. Good if you do not care about freqs much lower than 50 hz.

So will a sealed sub tune easier in a custom inclosure? Please excuse my ignorance..

This may sound odd, but country primarily (on the heavier side of bass when talking country), rock and the stuff like Offspring, Rage, RHC...
I dont want to go overboard with bass, I simply (or not so simple) I want a balance of just enough kick to the sound, but not over power it.

http://www.fordrangerforum.com/audio...stem-idea.html I was gonna do the same. Only issue I seen was the expo console isn't very thick. And the mounting plate gets in the way. If I was gonna do it I would run a 6 inch sub. The 8 will be in the way of the mounting plate. Also you will need to box in the inside of the console to support the sub and reduce rattle.

Also I have an alpine type R 8 in a small sealed box behind my seat. Because I decided against the expo sub. And I absolutely love it. Love the sound nothing is over powering. The sub isn't running at what it can. It's only around 200-250 rms and I'm happy with it.

A sealed enclosure will be right for you. Some subs do best is sealed enclosures. Your goal should be to find the best 8" of those you can afford, put it in the smallest & strongest enclosure it is compatible with, get a mono amp that will power it at it's max RMS wattage spec, give it the cleanest signal possible. All on your budget, of course. Odd shaped enclosures sound best. Basic square enclosures sound worst. You won't need a subsonic filter with a sealed enclosure. You will want a signal lowpassed below 100 hz.

----------

Alpine Type R's are actually best in custom ported enclosures. JL are very good in sealed, as are any shallow. If country is your favorite, don't worry about getting low freqs.

Yeah I didn't have room for ported. So I went with sealed and I listen to everything from dubstep to country and I like the way it sounds for all music. And JL makes some nice subs. You want something thing for sq.

Bridged at 150rms matching a kicker 6.5" compvt it should work out good.

Default Re: Expo console sub

Kenwood regular line amps are pretty low quality and I'm not sure that 1 will actually make 150 watts RMS. I know it says it will. Have you ever turned a 5 gallon plastic bucket upside down and drummed on it with your hands ? That is what it is going to sound like. Get good quality 6.75" component speakers in your front doors and amp them well or get a nice 10" subwoofer that will hit under 50 hz to go under a jumpseat.
