Default Another Amp question <.<

Hey guys I know there are a billion amp questions on this forum but I can't find my specific question. So sorry posting another amp question but here it goes...Ok I have one alpine type R 12 and its being powered by a MTX RT2200 Amp....im wanting to upgrade with another sub and a new amp....or just a bigger amp that can make that one 12 pop more. So what are my options? Also do you guys/girls think that amp is a good one? Thanks for any input!!

GeorgiaRanger,

That amp is alright. Its a little on the small side power wise.

Question about your sub...does it have one voice coil or two? (does it have one set of speaker wire connectors or two)

the amp is only 200 watts rms in bridged mode so no matter what you are only powering this sub about halfway.

Others will have different opinions but this amp > bazooka, is a sweet little amp. lot of power and easy on the pocket. We used to run these often with a simple one sub setup.

yea i know its small lol i used to have it in my car before i sold it and it flexed the hell out the car lol.....im pretty sure its one voice coil. So you think that bazooka will not blow the sub? cuz that amp is 550 rms and my type r is 500 rms. On a side note My dad actually has 2 12" bazooka tubes in his f250 lol

Well, here's the thing. You want to get an Amp and sub that are close in watts (power). I checked your amp and sub online. Amp = 200 watts bridged, sub = 500 watts (possibly, there are a lot of diff type R's out there). If I were you I would look for a better amp that more closely matches your sub. Keep in mind though, there is a ton of other stuff that goes into more bass and a better sounding system, i.e. 2ohm vs 4ohms, box size, ported vs. not ported, proper grounding of the amp, hi's-mid's-low's, crossovers, cables. I could go on and on. If your just looking for bass, I might date my self here, as Tim Taylor says "MORE POWER...ORR, ORR, ORR!"

If it's the same wattage, go for it. Even if it's a little over watts just be careful.

Your fine then. Try playing around with porting and filling the box Polyester fluff pillow stuffing. Porting will give you longer tones. The stuffing sounds funny but it will give you deep and sharp tones.....it's your call though. Have fun!

Just a lil heads up you only use poly fill when your box is to small for the sub. It slows the back wave cuzing the sub to think its in a bigger box. And porting just allows you to make a huge cubic inch box small. The size of the box affects the frequency, not the size of the port. Common misunderstanding about ported boxes
