Yes gtmat is slightly asphalt based but not anywhere near as bad as other off brands. While dynamat is not asphalt based it's also twice as expensive as gtmat. Both do the same thing, gtmat has a more nominal thickness of 80 of you want it but keep in mind that it's harder to form to your floor pans that way. I put two layers in my truck and I had a slight asphalt odor for maybe two or three days and then it was totally gone. Worth the money if you ask me.
