Default Help: Radio

Where can I find a radio or somehow hook up a new radio?

first picture is a modern radio (what i want if i cant get a old one)

second picture is whats in the radio slot now(along with the antenna wire)

I was looking at those converters from Walmart but its way to small to hook onto the end of those huge bars so I don't know what to do

If I understand you correctly - you're just looking for a vehicle specific wiring harness....I think. lol

You would attach the color-coded wires on this harness to the wires from your new stereo - then you'll be able to plug right into the factory radio connector.

Here is an example: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1207050...e-Harness.html

First, choose a new radio that physically fits. Either Ford stock radio from any year, or a fancy new aftermarket radio. Then get the wiring diagram for this new radio's input/output connectors. Crutchfield offers them or just Google for them.

Secondly, you need to find the Ford wiring diagram for your particular (1991?) stock radio, which tells you which pins do what within your existing radio connectors.

Buy a generic $10 adapter wire harness connector that plugs into your truck's existing dashboard radio connectors (like those Logan03CO posted). This avoids a hack job. Each wire has a specific purpose, per wiring diagrams, so start matching up each old wire to each new wire. Splice those together. That's it.

For example, see my photos here: http://imgur.com/a/xWGY6

Do you know how to solder, and to use heat-shrink tubing? Otherwise, crimps?

I just stuck a Sony Explode in my '93 using the wiring adapter Logan pointed out. It's a single DIN radio ...

You do need to use the DIN sleeve to mount it properly. That just slides into the hole, and then you bend a few of the tabs out so they clamp the dash bezel. From there, just slide the radio in until it clicks into the DIN sleeve.

Leave the wires long as there's not a lot of room directly behind the radio and you need to be able to scoot the connectors off to the side or below so they don't get in the way. Also do yourself a favor and solder/heat shrink the connections. Black tape has a way of going south over time.

You know how to get the stock radio out?
