I'm sure this has been asked a billion times, but i'm new to the area of car audio and i was wondering what options i have for my truck. It's a 2003 Ranger Edge Regular Cab. What kind of upgrades can i do to my sound system that is relatively easy and inexpensive. It sounds great now, but i was wondering if it could get better. I would like to keep my 6 cd changer if thats possible. Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply! Is changing the speakers pretty easy like just taking the old ones out and plugging the new ones in?

Yes it should be very simple. If you would like to run a subwoofer and amp, then all you need is a line converter box. And your RCA's will just plug into that. It should be a very simple install.

Ya remove door panels and you will need to cut the factory speaker connector off and splice in the wire the speakers come with

Ok I feel really stupid right now but what exactly do subs and amps do?

Subs make the bass more noticeable and the amps help power the subs or help power door speakers for a crisper sound

ok i will probably just change the door speakers and the speakers behind the seats for now. i don't think i will have much room for subs and amps being a reg. cab
thanks for the fast help!!!!!!!

If you order speakers from a place like Crutchfield, they throw in speaker wiring harnesses for free. Makes it a little easier to install - and to switch back to your old speakers if you want to sell the truck but keep the speakers.

But as mentioned, you can just splice the existing wires. No biggie.

Get yourself some good 6x8's.

I'm sorry to be a pest again, but what size speakers go in my truck? I know one size is a 6x8, but is that all around or what. I have the door speakers and the kind that mount on the back wall behind my seat. Thanks for the help!

All 4 speakers are 5X7/6X8.

So 5x7 and 6x8 are interchangeable? Also would would you get the same speaker for each spot?

5X7 and 6X8 are the same things. I don't know why they are different. Mostly, they are called 6X8's, but sometimes they are 5X7's.

Get the same speakers for all 4.

Those pioneer are pretty popular speakers

I had them for about 3 months in the truck when I first got it. They are better then the OEM speakers and have good sound

My truck has both 6x8's in the front and back... I put in two 12'' subs and kept stock speakers, just turn your bass all the way down in your stock speakers on the deck, then just turn up the sub itself, mine sounds great. But just a suggestion :) Check out my pics if ur interested
