SORRY guys/gals, I thought I had already posted this on here, but went to update it, and realized I hadn't started it:o
==========================================
Official notice of what I talked bout at the Ranger Meet in Knoxville!

This is gonna be my version of a Rat Rod and I doubt it's what they (the Rat Rod crowd) will be expectin:

Startin with this, less engine, trans, wheels & tires:

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/94BlackRangercleanedup750pix03.jpg

Picked up a 2" fiberglass bolt-on hood cheap:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/93-97RangerCowlHood.jpg

Unloaded after 4 months on the trailer & cleaned up for first time:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/94BlackRangercleanedup750pix01.jpg

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/94BlackRangercleanedup750pix04.jpg

And of course the RAT:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/402BBC396985410630CLBdressed750p-1.jpg

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/402BBC396985410630CLBdressed750pix0.jpg

Modified the radiator support for easier access:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/RatRangerprogressfullsize05.jpg

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/RatRangerprogress750pix04.jpg

Removed the bed for ease of access, tossed the PITA fuel tank, removed the rear suspension to include brackets:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/RatRangerprogress750pix01.jpg

And installed my NEW Explorer front spring mounts:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/RatRangerprogress750pix02.jpg

BUKOO room for Pro Street tires now:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/RearSuspensionmod4-11-09750pix03.jpg

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/RearSuspensionmod4-11-09750pix04.jpg

Done for now:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/RearSuspensionmod4-11-09750pix05.jpg

SURVEY SAYS: WHOLOTTA ROOM for more tire inside the wheelwell:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/TireroomavailableonRatRangersetu-1.jpg

But as most know with mods, things don't always go your way.......for my setup, I'm gonna have to fab up some shock mounts, as I can't use the original ones as expected....no biggy, AIN'T THE FIRST TIME!

Went with longer shackles to level it up some, frame is 19" from ground:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/RearSuspensionmod4-11-09750pix09.jpg

Made some shock mounts (1/4" flat stock & piece left from 2X4 rectangular tubin cut in half), haven't decided whether I'm gonna weld em on or bolt em:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/Rearshockmounts750pix.jpg

Shock mounts installed........had to modify crossmember above the rearend to strengthen it for the shocks to mount to it:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/RatRangerrearsuspensionmod750pix010.jpg

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/RearSuspensionmod4-11-09750pix011.jpg

Only thing left now is to weld up the spring perches after I set the pinion angle..................

Got my gauge panel made finally:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/RatRangerGaugeCluster750pix.jpg

Also made my switch panel:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/RatRangerSwitchPanelwfuelgauge750pi.jpg

Motorplate tigged & intake powder coated:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/402front.jpg
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/402side.jpg

Trucks sittin outside, on the back burner, as I've been workin on my Son's 95 XLT salvage rebuild............

Funds have been TIGHT, but I gotta set of 15x12 Weld Draglites w/7.5" backspacin yesterday:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/WeldDraglite15x12w75backspacing002.jpg
Now I just gotta save for the 29x14.50 Hoosier tires.....
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/Black%2094%20Ranger%20XLT/HoosierProStreet29x1550.jpg

I still gotta pick up some centers & lug nuts, after I do, I'll putem on and take some pics to show the clearance.

My idea looked good on paper & thought, and so far, all has gone as planned with only a few issues that were easily resolved....

Would like to have it ready for summer Cruise-Ins, but with my hours bein cut at work, kinda slowed thoughts/progress of the build, so may be next year before yuns see it out!

Will post updates as I go along, within reason................

AND to all you diehard blue oval folks: I don't wanta hear any negative crap bout Chevy in a Ford, as most know, I've done it before, and if ya don't like it, don't read/view/comment on it!

You keep teasing us with those pics!

RAT Ranger

My idea:
RBV have an offset chunk, so one axle tube is longer than the other, what if I take the tube out of the long side, shorten it to the same as the short side, reinstall it, put 2 short axles in it, this should narrow the complete rearend by approx. 3" and get the tires tucked inside the wheelwells.

The offset of the wheels won't allow alotta narrowin.............

I just measured the 7.5 I pulled out of the RAT Ranger......RR tube is 16 5/8" and LR is 19 1/2" = 2 7/8" difference.....

Any input on removin the tube? Do I heat it after removin the axle shaft, then twist it with a pipe wrench, and then reinstall the same way???

What ya think???

Johnbaum13
12-10-2009, 08:39 AM
^^^^cut and weld. The tube is "pinned" to the pumpkin. But remember, you're gonna have to relocate the spring perches to keep the tires centered.

TS6034
12-11-2009, 08:45 PM
Best way is to cut the tube with a large pipe cutter. Cut out the 2 7/8 and clamp some angle iron to both pieces and weld it back together. Then just visit the junk yard and get another passenger side axle shaft.

I found the answer on a sister site (RPS), if anybodies interested, heres the link:
http://www.rangerpowersports.com/forum/showthread.php?t=215899&page=9

I'm gonna go yardin some tomorrow, with the number of Explorers available after CFC, should be able to pick up a good 95 up disc braked rearend for around $100.....then I do this mod to it, and stuff it under the RAT Ranger and that'll get the tires totally inside the wheelwell.:D

^^^there is NO DOUBT that the Ford 9" is TOP DOG!

But as far as my builds, I like the Ranger bodies better than the S10's and the engine bays have more room, but for the $$$, ya can't beat a SBC, and when your on a budget like me, it was a NO BRAINER!

My Son has taken over the black 94 in the pics, it will be gettin a 16.5 to 1 compression, 58cc chambered aluminum headed, 355......est. 500HP.

The RAT Ranger has been switched to a 99 I picked up reasonable>>>

Day I brought it home:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/99%20XLT%20RAT%20Ranger/750pix99RangerXLThome23105.jpg

After a couple weeks of scroungin:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/99%20XLT%20RAT%20Ranger/99RainbowRangeredit1.jpg

Picked up a disc braked 8.8 out of a 00 Explorer, and my plans are to put two right side axles in it to narrow it 3" :
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/99%20XLT%20RAT%20Ranger/750pix00Explorer883L7301.jpg

The 99 will be gettin the black steppy, as my Son wants a std. box.

Before the rear suspension mod:
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/94ranger355/99%20XLT%20RAT%20Ranger/99RainbowRangeredit5.jpg

After rear suspension mod (no I haven't put the Explorer 8.8 in it yet, hence the shocks not hooked up and how high the azz is sittin, along with I haven't removed the rear shackle mounts yet):

BTW: Those SWEET mounts where made by a member over on TRS known as IRON RANGER!

I've been workin on gettin my green 94 ready for this summers Cruise-In's and Meets, as I pulled the motor and worked it over a tad.. :bandit:

Anybody interested in a red steppy cheap? Not cherry but only $200.....

================================
I'll bring one to the K-town meet, either driveable like March last year, or as a roller/trailer queen for those to look at what I've done to that point.;)

I worked on the green 94 today, probably another couple hours with no snaffous, and it's be ready to fire off.

At that point, it'll be time to remove the drivetrain of the 99, start test fittin, and mockin up for the RAT!:D

And my Son is chompin at the bit for me to dismantle his 93, and start mockin up the black 94 for HIGH HP 355.

SO, I've got alot on my plate not countin the medical issues I've been dealin with lately, but that's another story.

THANKS for the interest guys!
