i just replacedd my 98 rangers motor with a long block 2.5. everything went like clockwork...no problems switching this over or that over...500 miles later, timing cover was warped and rubbing cam gear, got that fixed...now i just have a mystery oil leak... any hits? am thinking to get the oil dye and do it in my dads garage(i dont have a garage of my own yet)its big enough for his semi..so plenty of room for the ranger.. but thinking this and start the engine let it idle dump the dye in and wait to see where the leak is coming from. i'm at my wits end on this..so much work and money just went into my truck that i didnt really have(in the process of getting first home) that i dont know what to do or which way to turn on his oil leak

if you pull the front part of the plastic timing cover back there is oil residue in there..some oil on top of my coilpacks also. i was thinking get some oil dye and just wait to see it. the motor came in the crate with the back half of timing cover on and the timing belt and pulleys on it already..am so boggled

i'd suggest some simple green and a pressure wash to clean up what you have and if you don't see were it's coming from then use the dye..

i hosed down the motor and that with a blow gun with solvent blowing through it..got rid of some of the oil but still some there under neath the truck, got some good oil spots out where i park truck also. it runs great, still taking it easy for break in and that..but so far thats my olny issue with the new motor..still getting used to new clutch also
