If you can find an Explorer with a 5.0 in it, strip everything out of the engine compartment, wiring harness, radiator, engine, air conditioner, and computer, plus whatever else, you can probably do the swap for half of what you can build a 4.0 for and get the same power.
I am not a 5.0 swap fan, but that is the fact of it.
You could even use a 5.0 HO out of a 91-92 Lincoln, as well as others, as long as you get all the wiring and the computer, those are advertised at 330 hp.
There are a lot of places to learn what has be done to swap in a 5.0, so go look and then figure out what kind of power you would end up with by going either way and what it is going to cost, the complete 4.0 rebuild against the 5.0 swap. I would go with the 5.0 swap and use a 5.0 HO.

alright so i might go with the 5.0 but will that bolt up to the tranny i have or do i have to get a different tranny. also will the motor mount be the same or not?? im guess that if i have all the stuff for the swap its kinda like a hard plug and play lol

The highest factory advertised HP for a pushrod 5.0L in a production Ford was 240 in the Mustang Cobra.

93 Mustang Cobra: 235
94~95 Mustang Cobra: 240
5.0L HO's: 200~225, depending on year
Explorer 5.0's: 210~215

Look it up. 91 & 92 Lincoln Mark VII came with 5.0 HO's, 4.6 came out in the Lincoln Mark VIII in 93 on. Some where in the Lincoln line they put a 3.8 in them that was supposed to have 200+ HP.
I just sold my 92 Lincoln Mark VII with a 5.0 HO in it.

RayCorrect. Town Cars had 4.6L modulars, the Mark VII still had the 5.0L HO factory rated at 225 HP, not 330.

I will concede the HP rating.
Reading a re builders web site, said they had a 330 HP, 5.0 HO from a Lincoln Mark VII.
Then after I posted the incorrect HP for my old Lincoln, I went and found a site that had all the specs for my 92. It said 230 HP, but the next page for the same car said 220 HP.
So, it is somewhere in that area.
An interesting side not to the whole thing came from somewhere else (I spend entirely to much time surfing) that the 0-60 for a particular 5.0 equipped Mustang was 4.8 or .9 and the 0-60 for a 4.0 (I assume an E) Mustang was 4.1 or .2.
I wonder what the difference was at the end of a 1/4 mile? 5.0 by 2 lengths.

Maybe it is just that I am old and cheap, but those folks seem to be real proud of there products.
