While the truck is in park I depressed the pedal to hear the new exhaust, and it cuts out @3500 rpm, like a governor. Anyone know about this?
Name says it all. Thanks

its a rev limiter, most rangers have them, it doesnt let the engine go past 3500 rpms while not moving. theres also a speed governer set at around 95 mph, but dont ask how i found that out.

There is no way to remove it without a tuner either.

Kinda pointless to rev your engine up past 3K rpm while sitting anyways so it is there for protection

Hmm, that is a first for me. I have not seen a vehicle limited like that before.
I found it to be odd and it would be a problematic when trying to run the revs to diagnose a misfire problem. . .

Oddly I have not been able to find a limiter one of my other cars, I have been told what it will do but I had to try and see for myself unfortunately I am to chicken, as the roads are not straight enough. I have tried it up to 184mph.

I think ford started putting them on 2001 models

ok honestly, the other night i was trying to top out my ranger right? it got up to 100 and basically felt like it shut off. it didn't, but i had to press the gas to get it going again. never again have i tried to force it back beyond 100 ... wtf governor?

Yeah my 96' is governed at 105mph. It feels like the engine kinda quits for a second. It doesnt turn off but it becomes disabled until it drops about 5mph.

it shuts off the gas to the motor thats why it pops sometimes

be glad it does. A truck like a Ranger is not meant for speed UNLESS it is at a certified race track and the ranger has all the safety devices.
Besides, tires on a Ranger are not for high speeds over 100

My 94 4.0 dont have any,and about the speed governor on it,doesnt have that either since i found it would run till i ran outta road ;)
I had the pointer on the speedo laid all the way back to overdrive and still had more left.I believe i was running 123-125 since thats what my gps showed. The little ranger will get up and run,it just takes it a while to get there.
