I just fixed the latch on my 91 beater. It doesnt have an access panel like the newer trucks have, I had to pull the latch off the center, pull the linkages out from each side of the tailgate and clean and lube everything. Even after that the lever would not pull the latches from the catch far enough to let the gate open. I adjusted the catches that are mounted to each bedside. I couldnt find any adjustment of the linkage inside.
