Default Swapping 5.0 help

Okay, so I am talking to a guy and am thinking about buying his 99 Ford Explorer 5.0. He says the engine and everything run smoothly. The body has rust but I only need it for the 5.0 swap.

The only problem is, the odometer has stopped working on his Explorer and I was wondering if when I swapped it into my truck, with my working odometer and everything, if the odometer would change back to the orginal mileage?

Still talking to him about it, really wanting to purchase it. Says everything runs strong, and smooth. Should I still purchase it?

The odometer will not change back to mileage however your whole cluster should work with the swap.

Thats what I was thinking. He estimates it has 160,000. Wanting $1,299 and asked if he would do $800. Still waiting for a response. Never mind he literally just texted me, lol. He said $900.

Thoughts, concerns!?! Help! Should I purchase it or not. Thanks!

At 160k I'd rebuild the motor while it's out, if your able to do all the work and the block and heads are in good shape it's about $300 for a complete rebuild kit that includes new rod/main bearings and piston rings for standard bore (re-using stock pistons) but other than that $900 for the entire truck isn't bad the pats gem module should swap over to your truck I believe

I'd show up with $800 in one pocket and $100 in another or have a friend hold it and put the $800 in his face lol

Yeah I have been reading about it for the past couple months and am now deciding to swap over. Everything is pretty much bolt on including PATs and all the good stuff.

He just re-texted me saying "Scratch that I will take $800"
I told him id get back to him in a couple hours.

Could a few others would pitch in? thoughts?? Should or shouldnt I purchase?

Show up with 800 stick to your guns and if he seriously won't take it just give him 900, pull the engine, and scrap the rest of it.

At 160k...yeah i would rebuild it before i dropped it in...but the whole explorer for only $800-900.is a steal....wish i could find a deal that good...all i have seen are 98-00 v8 explorers and mountaineers for $2500+.

It's not difficult just get a ring compressor, engine assembly lube, and a nice torque wrench take your time and be very very clean

Glad you got that engine. Anything from the truck you don't want you can scrap and sell off and get cash.
