Default What would fit without a lot of work

I have a 94 XLT 3.0L V6 and I want to put a V8 in. What engine would fit nicely with out $1000's of work needing to be done.

302 5.0 from either an explorer or a fox mustang. They can be had for around $100, check craigslist, or local scrap yards. Some people buy the explorers/mountaineers and use them for donors. The 2wd ones can be hard to find though.

Carb setups are easier than efi setups because you don't have to do as much wiring and calibration of the ECU.

Do you plan on doing the swap yourself, or are you using a local shop?

all depends. it takes as much as it does to get it done. 5.0 is common because swap kits exist. gm is usually cheaper, but less/no guidance and more custom because there's no swap parts for that conversion.

some get donors, sell parts off, and scrap the rest to recoup money. it's all about what you're willing to put up with, how cheap you can get parts, and how much time you spend planning ahead to know what you need in advance.

parts are up in the air, most 5.0ls you find that are for 100 here are usually not even worth the scrap price. that just how it is around here - if it's that cheap then there's something wrong with it or it's an engine not worth using (you'll lose your ass if you get a low performance engine with intentions of building it up, when you could have gotten a better engine for a couple hundred more to start with).

Explorers and mountaineers are (I think) 97-2001. Mustangs I'm not sure about but explorers are the easiest option as it's basically the same vehicle, and if you get a downer vehicle it's a lot easier so you can take parts off and walk over and reinstall

you have a '94, so you're probably going to want to stay OBD-I, which the explorer 5.0ls are not.

I would try to find something with a short front end dress, like a later (i.e. '93) t-bird 5.0L or 94-95 mustang. explorers use the short front end dress, but the later electronics, but it's like you can't change the engine management.

installing you'll need to pay attention to how it's done for 83-97 Rangers. the 5.0 is not going to be a "direct" bolt in to your '94. you'll either need adapter plates or drill and slot for mustang vert mounts.

I could go on, but honestly I am just regurgitating a bunch of information that's already out there ready for you to search for.
