He won't get any more pressure with the engine cranking than he will with the key turned and the pump initialized.

Not until the pressure that is in the system is released, meaning it is being fed into the intake. That only happens if the ignition is working right.

OP, Almost sounds like you have a crankshaft position sensor that has gone bad.

i actually had the exact same issue with an S10 yesterday. The fuel pump would kick on, but go right back off, without pumping any fuel at all. Turned out to be a loose ground wire. May or not be the issue, but it's worth looking into the simple stuff first.

Pats system? Did you use the explorer key? Or stock ranger key? If you used ranger you have to get it calibrated for the new motor. If using explorer pats, you have to use explorer key.

Ranger key. Had it flashed. Still the same symptoms.

i unfortunately didnt get to hear it run in the expo. the guy pulled the motor trans and ecu and scrapped the rest.
