Default v8 swap

i no im gonna get flamed for this question but my dad has several chevy v8s layin around and a turbo350 transmission...is there any pre fabbed motor mounts for a small block chevy in a ranger or will i have to make them myself? also other than motor and trans what else will i have to get to do the swap and it be daily driver worthy

A chevy engine in a ford ranger will never be daily driver worthy. Lol jk jk.









No, there aren't mounts made for the 350 in a ranger. But, it's been done several times. As far as what else you'd need? Who knows. Not sure how you would mate up a power steering pump with the ranger steering box. You could get custom lines made. You could run a one wire alternator for the charging system.

the chevy motor is a last resort because i cant find a 302 in good condition around here and if they are in good shape theyre asking a butload for it or they are selling it as a whole car for way to much

Damn, to bad I just read this, my girlfriend just traded in her 1994 Mustang GT, I would have sold that motor on the cheap....but timing is everything...

yea i searched craigslist for a few hours and didnt see but one or two ford v8s and they were purdy high miles which i dont want to pay for it then pay more to rebuild it i kindas want something i can drop in and go because i dont have any other vehicles to drive at the moment

Go for it. I have owned my ranger for 14 yrs with the lame 2.9. I am tired of having no power and an engine with a poor management system. I have been a licensed mechanic for years working on all the brands, and I wanted the best bang for my buck. So over the past few months I have been gathering parts. This weekend I start the transplant. 5700 Vortec with a 4L80 trans.

Use what you have, a real custom is that. Not brand specific.

If I did not want a load of power just reliability I would have used a Volvo B230FT

EVERY time i see a decent looking custom hotrod at a show i ask the owner whats under the hood and i almost ALWAYS hear "three fiddy"

its crap....no one does anything original anymore

i could understand reliable power in a pickup but for a toy hotrod IMHO do something that hasn't been done a billion times

There you go "built to individual specifications"

just maybe there is a reason the 350 chev is a popular choice. Using a 350 could be considered mainstream but how you install it, the add ons, and paint work can set it aside. I have searched for 350 rangers and not saying it is not already out there, but mine may be different since it will use all the 5700 vortec injection along with a 4L80E trans and the serpentine accessory drive with A/C. Graphed a chev cluster in to the ford so I would have the digital PRNDL readout. The whole thing is OBDII compliant. But if you believe that out of catalog bolt ons are more "custom" than one off hand made parts than cheers my friend, I will be at the end of a plasma cutter while you are at the end of the line at the counter of your local speed shop turning pages in the "custom" catalog

I think we're at point where anything "original" is kind of getting impractical, because the ideal setups have already been thought out and done. Any v8 in a Ranger is custom. What makes it different is the work put into it and the quality of the install. I didn't realize this until about 5 or 6 years ago, really puts a different perspective on things when you see other people's projects driving out on the road - the amount of time and effort it took to get to where it is. Sometimes the beaten path is the right way to go. Everyone will give you their 2 cents on what's the best, but you're the one that's going to have to deal with the swap and end result.

i'm just tired of seeing these one of a kind spectacular rides only to realize they are powered by a 350

i saw a 71 CHALLENGER at a show last weekend....immaculate paint, interior was completely redone,....only to see a 350 under the hood

i was disgusted

i can understand it was this guys blood sweat and tears but if you're gonna put that kind of money in a car, at the very LEAST keep it mopar.

I can agree with that! Big downfall, I would have been pretty disappointed too. But I am sure there was some reason or another that he really wanted to drop a 350 in it. Who knows, could have someone telling him what to do and he's just paying for all of that work.. It's nice to see a classic car with it's stock engine and transmission for sure.
