That's good to know, would suck to end up withe the 97, and not the 97.5. The .5 makes a difference lol

Even so, it would suck. I guess you could always put new headers on though.

Re: Which V8 should i use?
GT40P header selection isn't great for Ranger conversions. I run GT40s from a 96, but aftermarket is the best bet

On 211000 on mine put it in at 187000 ran it so far for a year no real problems a little lifter clatter. Still running strong about to stroke it. Streetracer or Cory had his gone over before sticking it in had 150000 now is well into the 200000 maybe 3 but runs great

Ok, I was thinking about putting an overhauled crate engine in, but if they're good for that long then I can save some money buying a whole explorer

There was a good reason the 302 was around for nearly 30 years. It was reliable, made good numbers, and could be a easily adaptable engine. Much like the modular engine it was only phased out for more powerful and efficient engines.

They still make the 302 under the modular name now.
As in before when they phased out the 302 in favor of fords triton engines (then it was just the 4.6, 5.4, and 6.8 v10) when the brought the 302 back it was added to the family of triton engines. Now I think it goes (4.6 5.0 5.4 5.8 6.2 and the 6.8 v10)

Oh I didn't know that. But what I'm saying is I wish they still put 350s in the family car, but then again some of the 4 cylinders in these cars are pretty perky, I just like the old 5,000 lbs cars.

The 5.8 is the 5.4 with different more durable piston sleeves. Those sleeves give them 400ccs of engine room, which bumped it to 5.8. They still use the 5.4 in the expeditions and you can still get I as a crate motor I believe. As for the 4.6, they don't use in anymore ford vehicles, but I do believe they sell them to other companies. Like koenigsegg uses fords 4.6 for a few of their cars.
And the v10 is used in fords commercial truck line.
